Things to do

Malta's only natural park is the Majjistral Nature and History Park located in the northwest part of the island between Golden Bay and Anchor Bay. This area includes a rich and important ecological, cultural and rural heritage. Visitors to this park can see farmhouses, rubble walls, tombs, caves and huts used for shelter dating back to the Classical Period. There is also British military architecture remaining from the early 20th century. The stunning landscape is great for trekking in the cooler months and there are guided walks held between October and May.

In nearby Golden Bay, is the horse riding centre. Catering for all levels from beginners to advanced riders, this is a popular excursion and a fun way to see some more of the coast. Offering a choice of an hours ride overlooking the beautiful beach of Golden Bay, or a longer 1.5 hours ride that takes in the sunset over the bay. All rides are accompanied by experienced and qualified instructors, and private lessons or group bookings are also available.

Eating and drinking out

Whether looking for somewhere to go for a family lunch or a relaxing dinner, go to Ta'Peter restaurant in Mellieha town. This restaurant serves local Maltese dishes in a friendly and casual atmosphere with helpful staff and efficient service. With a great location overlooking the street, the upstairs restaurant is a lovely spot for a quiet dinner, and the bar is a nice place for a drink or two. It offers great value for money and simple, honest food in a central location.

Offering delicious dishes from Maltese cuisine and around the world, this restaurant has superb views over the bay, large portion sizes and great tasting food. L'Escargot Bar and restaurant is the perfect place to stop after a long walk around the town and enjoy a light meal, a drink or to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Serving small meals such as sandwiches and coffee during the day, and mains including rabbit, pizza, burgers, seafood and fish dishes. Large portions mean everyone will be satisfied after eating here, and there is a fantastic selection of local and imported wines to enjoy over a meal.
