February Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Marsa Alam in February?

Temperature

February is the middle of the winter season in Marsa AlamEgypt. That doesn't mean that you should expect cold and rainy weather, thoughather the contrary. The average temperature this month is 19°C, which is one degree up from the annual low average of 18°C that was observed in January. The average highs and lows are also one degree higher than the previous month and are now 24°C and 14°C respectively. Both temperatures increase by about 3 degrees in the course of February. The temperature of the sea averages 23°C, the same as in January and March. Swimming is comfortable all-year round, even in winter, but diving is not recommended, however, as high winds and wilder waters don't offer the best diving conditions.

Sunshine Hours

In February, there is an average of 11 hours of sunshine per day which is just convenient for that desert safari you are planning (see below). Safaris are best undertaken in the late afternoon when the temperature drops to cooler levels. Since you are going to a desert, you need to bring lots of water and a scarf to protect your face against sand that may be blown by the wind. The same amount of sunshine hours is also recorded in MarchApril and October.

The reason for this one-hour increase in sunshine hours since January is the constant lengthening of the days. February 1 is the shortest day of the month with 10.59 daylight hours and February 28 is the longest with 11.37 hours of daylight. This basically means that it is sunny all day long and this is reflected in the percentage of cloud cover. Cloud cover drops from 33% to 24% in the course of the month, which means that on every day in February, the sky is mostly clear or clear.

Rain

Virtually no clouds whatsoever, of course, also results in the complete absence of rainfall. And indeed, the total amount of precipitation in the entire month is 1mm, which is pretty much the same as nothing. There are no days with rainfall at all in February. This is a desert resort after all!

Beaches in Marsa Alam in February

Sharm El Luli

Even though many resorts on the Red Sea coast have their own private stretch of beach, there are two major public beaches in the area. Sharm El Luli is situated about 60 kilometres south of the town, but is extremely popular among tourists. This bright white sand beach with its shallow crystal-clear water attracts visitors from all over the region. At low tide, the sea becomes a lagoon and very easy to simply walk into the water toward the reefs. Although it is a hugely popular destination, so far there is no development at allo hotels, restaurants or other facilities are present.

Abu Dabbab Bay

The second popular beach near Marsa Alam is Abu Dabbab Bay, famous its dugongs or sea cows. This is one of the only places in the world where you can swim with these rare animals. Additionally, the bay is also home to a fantastic beach with parasols and sun loungers.

Bars and Restaurants

Divino Restaurant

One of the top-rated restaurants in the resort is Divino Restaurant. Located in the modern Port Ghalib Marina, this restaurant serves excellent Mediterranean food, cocktails, beers and other alcoholic beverages, as well as non-alcoholic drinks. They have a lounge area where you can enjoy a shisha pipe while overlooking the marina and the sea.

Things to do in Marsa Alam in February

Desert Safari

What could be more romantic than spending Valentine's Day in a Bedouin tent? Marsa Alam offers the opportunity to experience a desert safari and stay at a Bedouin village. Explore Egypt's Eastern Desert by jeep, buggy, horseback, quad bike, or travel the old-fashioned Arab way, which is by camel. Tour guides arrange this kind of safari and it is always best to never explore the desert on your own. A tour starts late in the afternoon so that you can enjoy the view of the sunset over the desert sand dunes. Once you reach the Bedouin village, you can partake in a barbecue dinner and enjoy Egyptian tea. You can opt to stay the night or head back to Marsa Alam.  Of course, an overnight stay allows you to see the sunrise the next morning.  Souvenirs may be purchased at the Bedouin settlement.
