Manchester has an enormous array of festivals and entertainment venues as well as a long history in a variety of areas such as music, sports and textiles. It has a rich cultural background while maintaining a modern feel that seems incongruous to those who have not been to Manchester themselves.

Those who visit Manchester in March have the opportunity to witness two major festivals that are distinctly different but have one thing in common. Both give a nod to neighbouring cultures.

The first is the Manchester Irish Festival. This festival lasts two weeks and culminates on Saint Patrick's Day with an enormous parade that is the largest of its kind anywhere in the United Kingdom.

The second event in March is the Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival. Another lengthy celebration, this one lasts ten days and offers screenings of Hispanic movies of all types. In addition, it previews upcoming movies and debuts world premieres of the same genre.
