Magaluf Weather December Averages, Spain
Magaluf is a popular holiday resort located on the south west coast of Majorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands. The resort caters mainly to European and British tourists and is especially popular with younger travellers thanks to its lively nightlife.
Magaluf has a typically Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. Marking the start of winter, December is a colder month in Magaluf, but the resort still offers an escape from the freezing weather of the UK at this time of year. Average temperatures this month are around 10°C, though high temperatures can still reach a pleasant 15°C during the day. Night time is when the temperatures really drop, and holiday makers should make sure to pack some warmer layers to wear if they plan to go out on an evening. The average low temperature this month is just 5°C.
With temperatures much lower than summer, the weather is not ideal for sunbathing, though chilling out during the day at the hotels' many swimming pools or on the beach is still an option. Tourists would be advised not to swim in the sea at this time of year though, as the waters can feel rather chilly. Average sea temperatures have fallen to just 16°C and there are probably not many swimmers brave enough to take a dip in this.
There is still some sunshine around in December, but the days are much shorter. The month sees 6 hours of sunshine a day and there's a 48% chance of a sunny day. Cloud cover it still minimal though, with just a 7% chance of a cloudy day.
Those visiting Magaluf in December should expect a chance of rain, though there will still be many dry days. The average rainfall at this time of year is 44mm and there's around 14 wet days. This average is higher than other months, but remember that some of this precipitation comes in the form of light drizzle in the early morning hours when many night-time partygoers are still sleeping anyway.
The resort is out of peak season at this time of the year and will be much quieter than the summer months, though advantages of travelling in December include less crowds and cheaper deals on accommodation.
Where to stay
There are many great accommodation options for your holiday to Magaluf in December. The Fergus Resort is a popular choice for those visiting the resort at any time of year. Especially aimed towards the younger crowd, the hotel has a cool, contemporary ambience with stylish décor and a luxurious feel. If sophisticated, adult-only accommodation is what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed here.
Families and those who prefer a quieter hotel setting should look for accommodation in the nearby resort of Palma Nova, which is just a short walk away. The Sol Palmanova Mirlos Tordos is highly rated and especially noted for being family orientated. Facilities here cater towards children, with a kid's club, a splash pool and an adventure play park, and while the kids are entertained adults can relax in the pool or lounge bar.
The Ponet Mar hotel is also located in Palma Nova, but is within walking distance of all of Magaluf's attractions, including the famous strip. Guests will find a home-from-home here, with fully equipped and comfortable apartments that feature TV, Wi-Fi and a kitchen area. On-site facilities include a heated swimming pool and sauna and a stylish bar and restaurant.
Eating and drinking out
Magaluf has more than enough great places to eat and drink, even in the quieter month of December. For an unforgettable dining experience, La Boedga is one of the most talked about restaurant in the resort, and for good reason. Delicious food and a rustic atmosphere combine at this authentic Tex Mex restaurant which caters to customers of all ages. The huge menu features choices such as fajitas, steak and tapas as well as a selection of tasty cocktails.
Another winner is Palm Beach Restaurant. The beach side establishment has an upmarket feel and is a great place to go for an evening meal with friends or family. Their unique Black Rock grill offers a choice of meat and fish which is served on volcanic rocks so guests can cook their meal to their own liking.
Finally, a trip to Magaluf wouldn't be complete without sampling its famous nightlife and one of the best places to do this is Coco Bongos. This vibrant bar is a fun place to spend an evening, with music, drinks and a disco. There are also a number of TV screens where you can kick back and watch the latest football game.
Things to do
If you're visiting Magaluf in December, why not take the opportunity to pick up some unique Christmas presents for those back home? Magaluf itself has some lovely gift shops with trinkets and unusual items, but for the best shopping you should head out of the resort to Palma de Majorca. The city is within easy reach by public transport and offers a combination of big international brands and designer boutiques within its streets.
Many visit Magaluf in the quiet off-peak season to unwind and relax, and what better way to do that than with a day at a spa? Many of the hotels in the area have spas on-site, such as the Flamboyan Caribe hotel. Here, you can chill out and forget your worries, with a whirlpool bath, a hydro massage pool and a range of beauty and massage treatments.
