    Lyon is a location known and loved for its rich culture, food and magnificent wine. The city is filled with a number of museums, ancient buildings, and restaurants all waiting for visitors to come and explore them.

    The general daytime temperature in March is around 13°C (55°F), so warm clothing may help offset the chilly air when outside.

    March in Lyon is the perfect time to explore the old town area and get a feeling for the historical aspect of this centuries old city. The architecture of many of the buildings that have been well preserved is enchanting.

    There are a number of tours to be taken and one interesting place of note is the Gite-Loutarde neighbourhood in Old Lyon which is listed as an official UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors are invited to take a walking tour through this neighbourhood to enjoy the open air markets and sidewalk cafes. Getting a local guide for a couple of euros is a good idea so that none of the interesting, out of the way sights are missed.

    For families, a visit to the Parc de la Tete d'Or is an inexpensive way to fill up an afternoon. There is no entrance fee to get into the park and visitors are free to wander around the rose and botanical gardens as well as walking around the lake. There is also a zoo for the kids to take in views of some exotic animals. Bicycles are available to rent. Be on the lookout for pink flamingos around the side of the lake!

    Accommodation in Lyon, like most other cities in France, can be quite expensive if not booked well in advance. The B&B Lyon Gambetta hotel is a great place to stay if you are on a budget but still want to be within the city perimeter. The B&B is located near a train station for ease of travelling to the other parts of the city. The rooms are well appointed with large, comfortable beds as well as a separate WC and bathroom, cable TV and free Wi-Fi access. They offer coffee and tea around the clock and there are several restaurants and cafes in the general vicinity.
