Lyon Weather January Averages, France

    Lyon Weather for January 2021

Lyon is a city found in the eastern-central region of France. It has two rivers within its boundaries; the Rhône and the Saône. The two rivers meet at the southern part of this historical city, creating a peninsula inside Lyon.

During January, visitors can expect to experience daytime temperatures of 5°C (41°F).

In the evenings, the temperature can be as low as -1°C (30°F) so it's advised to wrap up warm!

There is an average precipitation accumulation of 52mm or just about 2 inches of rain for the month. On average, it rains on about 15 days of the month but generally the showers are light and brief. Visitors should expect about 5 hours of sunshine per day.

Lyon is loved by locals and visitors alike for its food, culture and architecture. It is the capital of gastronomy in France and that is why there is a great number of Bouchons; restaurants serving traditional Lyonnaise cuisine usually including sausage, roast pork and ducks. No holiday would be complete without a visit to one of the local, out-of-the way eateries that the locals prefer over the more  flashy restaurants designed to draw in tourists.

When in Lyon, one should visit Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière and appreciate its interiors and stunning designs. It was built in the late 19th century and it sits atop of Fourvière Hill which makes it a good spot to admire the panoramic view of the city. Visitors are advised to ride the funicular to the top and then take the refreshing walk back down to the bottom after their tour.

Visitors in search of economical accommodations during their holiday should consider the Ibis Lyon Gerland Pont Pasteur hotel which is conveniently located next to the A7 motorway, just minutes from many local attractions and activities. There is an on-site restaurant and bar serving food and snacks 24 hours a day and the rooms are well equipped with comfortable beds and adequate bathrooms. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms.

The Ibis Lyon Gerland Rue Merieux hotel is another equally economical and lovely choice for a holiday stay in Lyon. It's a bit smaller than its sister hotel the Pont Pasteur, but offers the same amenities and a location closer to the centre of the city.
