Things to do in London in April
St. James' Park
The weather starts to improve in London in April and if you're lucky enough to get a dry sunny day during your holiday, make the most of it by spending the day at St James's Park. The oldest park in the capital, St James's Park incorporates the Mall and Horse Guards Parade, and also provides plenty of room for children to run around and adults to relax in. Here you'll find ponds, fountains, deckchairs, local wildlife, trees, grassy areas and benches.
If you don't mind travelling a bit further afield, then take the bus or the tube to Hampstead and spend an afternoon exploring the famous Hampstead Heath. This beautiful parkland commands stunning views over the City of London, and serves as a respite from the hustle and bustle of the busy centre.
Another green site of interest which is well worth visiting is Kew Gardens. Set near Richmond in southwest London, the gardens qualify as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts the largest and most diversified botanical collections in the world. Within its grounds you'll also find Kew Palace, which ranks as one of the smallest royal palaces in the United Kingdom.
Make sure you take some peanuts with you to feed the friendly squirrels. Explore Duck Island Cottage, the office building for all of London's historic parks and garden trusts. Various events and activities are held at the park throughout the year, so keep an eye out for posters advertising what's on during your visit.
The Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon is one of the best shows in London. This hilarious comedy is brought to you from the creators of South Park and takes place at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Coventry Street. Victoria and Albert Museum
If you have a few hours to spare, don't miss the chance to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum. Highly regarded as the world's greatest museum of art and design, this museum is comprised of a plethora of exhibitions which range from paintings, photographs and sculptures to artefacts, fashion accessories and storyboards.
There are many child-friendly activities, too, such as backpacks and trails, the imagination station and pop-up performances. In addition to the exhibitions, the museum is also home to a lunch room, several cafes and a shop.
For a unique view of London, head on over to Up at the O2. This 90-minute experience takes you across the roof of the O2 building so you can enjoy amazing 360° views of the city from a sky high platform before culminating your experience with a thrilling ride back down.
Whatever you do, make sure you take your camera you'll be surrounded by photo opportunities at every turn. Up at the O2 is a very popular attraction, so make sure you book in advance in order to avoid disappointment.
The Tower of London
The Tower of London is one of the biggest and best tourist attractions in London and is a must-visit during your trip to the capital. Here you can explore the iconic white tower, admire the Power House exhibition or wander around the Royal Mint Museum.
Witness the infamous Crown Jewels and read the stories about the royal beasts which were housed in the tower. Walk along the line of kings then explore the prisoners' exhibition. Visitors can also join a yeoman warder tour, and observe the memorial for people executed in Tower Green. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the famous Tower of London ravens!
