Although it only occurs on an average of once every ten days, temperatures have been known to rise above 39°C and drop below 12°C during May in Las Vegas. The highest temperature ever registered in Las Vegas in May is 43°C, whilst the lowest temperature ever recorded in the city during this month is 8°C.

With average temperatures as warm as these, May is one of the best times of the year to visit Las Vegas. The pleasant temperatures and sunshine mean that you can spend plenty of time outdoors, but if the heat proves to be a bit too much for you, you can seek shade inside the city's many casinos and show venues.

Open from Monday-Thursday from 10am until 8pm and Friday-Saturday from 10am to 1.30am, this restaurant prides itself on rubbing all its own meat with its speciality dry rub. The menu features hearty meat-based sandwiches, burgers, ribs, platters and sampler dishes all of which are cooked freshly on the barbecue.

Champagnes Café

For a stylish vintage bar, you can't beat Champagnes Café. Located on Maryland Parkway and open 24/7, this bar is decorated with velvet wallpaper and a distinctive shrine made up of a martini glass, coffee cup and cigarette in honour of the former manager making it a very unique bar indeed! The music played mirrors the vintage décor, with Frank and Dino regularly playing on the jukebox. 

Peppermill's Fireside Lounge

Peppermill's Fireside Lounge is one of the most incredible bars in Las Vegas. Known for its distinct seating arrangement, which sees plush sofas spread around indoor fire pits, and beautiful waitresses which are dressed in flamboyant outfits. The lengthy drinks menu is made up of around 56 cocktails, plus a selection of premium wines which are served by the glass. 

Things to do in Las Vegas in May

Dream Riding

Sports car enthusiasts won't want to pass up the chance to visit Dream Racing. Located on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, this speed racing company gives you the chance to get behind the wheel of a Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes or Corvette and race around the specially-designed track for 5-40 laps.

There is a huge selection of packages available, each of which features a different high-speed car and a different number of laps, providing something for all budgets and motor preferences. You can book your experience in advance online, but reservations aren't obligatory.

Mike Hammer Comedy Show

If you're up for a laugh, consider stopping by the Mike Hammer Comedy Show. This show takes place five nights each week at the Canyon Club inside the Four Queens Hotel & Casino, between Tuesday and Saturday at 7pm. Part magician and part comedian Mike Hammer wows audiences in his 70 minute show with razor blade swallowing, mind-reading and fantastic jokes.

The Mike Hammer Comedy Show is an extremely interactive show, so if you don't want to be picked on, you're best off sitting at the back.

Bellagio Botanical Garden

When it comes for something to do during the daytime in Las Vegas, consider stopping by the Bellagio Botanical Garden. Located inside the Bellagio hotel, this botanical garden is open 24-hours-a-day and displays a wide range of flowers and plants which have been collected from all over the world.

Each day between 10.30am and 11.30am, Mr & Mrs Green Thumb answer questions and give gardening tips in the conservatory, whilst live music performances take place daily between 5pm and 6pm in the south garden.

Lake Mead

May in Las Vegas signals the beginning of summer and celebrations really kick off around Memorial Day weekend as visitors flock to the city for fun and festivities.
