Each September day has 10 sunshine hours on average, a similar number that was also seen in May. With 10 hours of sunshine and temperatures firmly in the mid-20s, Larnaca is an amazing destination in September. The summer crowds will have left by now, but the excellent weather stays around for a bit longerntil it finally moves into autumn in October.

For a homey hotel experience in a convenient location, the Alkisti City Hotel is a wonderful option. Located in the Larnaca shopping centre, this traditional 19th-century hotel building offers 8 modern rooms all decorated in a way to preserve the building's history. The hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the palm trees promenade, the marina, St. Lazarus Square and other city attractions. Prices are quite reasonable and each room is equipped with the basic amenities plus a small refrigerator, TV, internet and large rooms for city viewing. The hotel also has free parking, a garden and a restaurant.

You can relax on one of the many beaches in Larnaca, but take care to avoid sunburn and sunstroke. Always wear sunscreen with a high SPF as well as hats and sunglasses. Seek shelter from the sun during the hottest parts of the day.

If you do want to hit the beach in mid-afternoon, you might as well go to Kastella Beach, located a 15-minute walk from the city centre near the Psarolimano Fishing Shelter. This is one of the many beaches in Larnaca that is a Blue Flag beach. It is a small beach, covered with grey sand and with calm, warm water. Facilities at the beach include toilets, umbrellas and sun loungers, fish restaurants, changing rooms and ice cream stalls.

A typical Cypriot tavern, Zephyros Beach Tavern serves traditional fish and meat dishes. It is located near the fishing harbour of the city, thus able to offer the freshest fish possible. This is arguably one of the very best taverns in all of Larnaca.

There are some interesting sites to explore in and around the resort. The Kamares, for instance, is an old aqueduct that stands outside the town on the way to Limassol. It was built in 1745 and modelled on ancient Roman aqueducts.

Another fascinating site is the Larnaca Salt Lake, one of the most important wetlands in Cyprus and a dedicated Natura 2000 area. More than 80 species of migratory birds can be seen in the lake in winter, making it a hotspot among bird-watchers. This is an amazing place to go hikinghe Nature Trail that runs along the lake is part of the European E4 long-distance walking path. The salt lake is also of importance historically, for it was home to the first port in Cyprus. It was used as a natural port as early as 1,700 BC, when it served a rather big prehistoric town in the area.
