March Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

With the summer season right around the cornert begins in Apriln LarnacaCyprus, March sees the weather take a turn for the better. The Mediterranean climate means the area enjoys warm and pleasant weather throughout the year. Though the summer is the most popular time of the year to visit, the resort remains an appealing holiday location year round and winter time is the ideal time to travel to Larnaca if you want to enjoy warm weather and winter sun on your holiday. With comfortable temperatures and enough sunshine to enjoy, it's really no wonder Larnaca is such a popular resort.

In March, the average temperature is 14°C, two degrees warmer than in February, already showing that the weather is slowly moving toward the warmer half of the year. The temperature is still well below the annual maximum of 27°C that is experienced in July and August, though. During the nights, the low temperature averages 8°C, while in the afternoons, the mercury climbs to an average high of 19°C. Both the low and high temperatures tend to increase by two full degrees in the course of the month. The sea temperature remains at its annual minimum this month, averaging only 9°C. It won't be until June that the sea water is warm enough for comfortable swims.

March is characterised by slowly clearing skiesot that they were ever exceptionally cloudy. In the course of the month, the cloud cover decreases from 42% to 37%, making room for more sunshine. There are 6 hours of sunshine per day on average, two hours more than in January and February and one hour more than in December.

Clearing skies also mean the amount of rainfall is decreasing. March, however, still receives 50mm of rainfall throughout the month and there are 9 days with precipitation. These numbers make it the fourth wettest month of the year in the resort, although this is nothing compared to the UK! Rainfall is most likely to happen in the beginning of the month, when the chance of precipitation is 37%. At the end, that chance has dropped to 30%. The most common type of rainfall is moderate rain, which is observed on 45% of the days. Thunderstorms happen on 37% of the rainy days, while light rain occurs on 16% of those days.

If you enjoy authentic boutique hotel stays, try one of Lonely Planet's recommended hotels, Hotel Opera. This hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Larnaca, opposite the St. Lazarus Square. This hotel's architecture and décor is made up of traditional island stone materials with hues of blues, ivories, and whites, decorated with traditional island decor. The hotel offers 13 en-suite rooms with balconies, TV, and free Wi-Fi, making it a cozy and quaint stay in the city centre. The hotel does not have any bars or restaurants, but does offer complementary coffee and cake on a daily basis. The hotel is also well within walking distance from the city's many restaurants, bars, and famous tourist attractions.

If you're looking for a romantic night out between the two of you, consider booking a table at La Veranda Restaurant Café. This is a great place to enjoy an intimate candlelit dinner in the evenings. In the afternoons, you can also visit for a delicious snack.

One exciting and unique opportunity on offer in Larnaca is a submarine ride. If you're travelling with the family, kids are bound to love it and it's also a great way to explore the depths of the Mediterranean Sea, especially if you are less keen on the idea of going scuba diving. One of the most appealing parts of the trip may well be the chance to spot the wreck of the Zenobia ferry. This promises to be a highlight of any holiday in Larnaca.

A completely different experience can be had approximately 35 kilometres outside of the resort. That is where the Choirokoitia Neolithic Settlement is situated, one of the very best preserved prehistoric sites in the eastern Mediterranean. Dating from 7,000 BC, this important archaeological site displays the history of the Neolithic era in Cyprus and includes five reconstructed houses. The site is of such cultural and historical value that it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
