La Vara del Pescao

La Vara del Pescao is a festival celebrated in the Canary Islands in August. The festival celebrates the island's connection to the sea and the abundant seafood that sustains the island's food supply. Also unofficially marking the end of summer, the festival focuses on street celebrations and feasts of grilled fish. Sardines are the most significant and popular fish, so they are central in the festivities like they are during Carnival in spring.

Hiking

Hiking and walking are both popular activities in La Gomera, and there's no wonder with such wonderful natural surroundings, there's no better way to see them than getting out there and being surrounded by trees and mountains. The island is covered in trails that cater to every ability and at the centre lies a beautiful national park known as Garajonay. To begin your hike into the Garajonay National Park, La Laguna Grande is a natural starting point. This large lagoon is a resting place that's located near a carpark with a restaurant, so why not get breakfast before heading out?
