Krabi Beach for October

Ao Nam Mao Beach 

Located within Krabi Town, Ao Nam Mao beachstretches from the south side of Ao Nang up to the Shell Fossil Beach and can be accessed via bus, songthaew, tuk tuk or long tail boat. This beach is one of the most undeveloped ones in the whole of Krabi, with no bars, restaurants or resorts within the immediate area.

The only sign of life is a residential development and a few shops which are located back from the beach along the main road. If sunbathing on the golden sands and swimming in the aquamarine waters aren't enough to keep you entertained, horse riding excursions also take place along the beach.

Bays of Koh Hong 

The twin bays of Koh Hong can be reached via a 45-minute ride on a long tail boat or a 20-minute ride on a speedboat and is home to various types of wildlife, including birds, giant monitor lizards and white-faced gibbons, which regularly explore the beach when it's quiet. What makes these bays particularly outstanding are the gigantic rock formations which rise out of the sea and are topped with tropical green plants.

The soft white sands provide plenty of space for children to play and adults to sunbathe, whilst the clear shallow waters create the ideal environment for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking.

When it comes to top quality affordable Thai food in Ao Nang, it's got to be the Massaman Restaurant & Bar. Located on the southern road to Krabi Town 500m from the beach, this open-air eatery lets diners enjoy their meals on a covered terrace which is ideally located for people watching on the street below. The menu is made up of southern Thai delicacies, including curries, salads and noodle dishes, plus a handful of vegetarian and international options. There are six bottled beers available, various cocktails, soft drinks, teas and coffees.

Jenna's Bistro , Ao Nang 

For something more international, pop into Jenna's Bistro & Wine. Located in Ao Nang, this restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers an a la carte menu with nibbles, cold cuts, cheeses, salads, pasta, grilled meat, fresh fish and Thai dishes. Vegetarian, Sunday roast, kids' and picnic basket menus are also available, plus a three-course set menu which is great value for money. Around 50 different international wines are served by the bottle and glass, in addition to cocktails, beers, alcoholic coffees and soft drinks.

Little Longhorn Saloon 

Little Longhorn Saloon in Ao Nang is one of the best places to go for live music.

This cowboy-themed bar is located in Centre Point has its own resident band which plays rock sets every evening at 10pm. If you're looking for a highly recommended massage parlour to check out during your holiday in Krabi, consider First Lady Massage. Based in Pak Nam, this massage parlour offers individual and couple's massages in a traditional Thai style, carried out by male and female therapists. The masseurs are incredibly talented and can tailor the massage to your liking. Body, back, neck, head, foot, arm and hand massages are available as well as manicures and pedicures and warm tea is often served at the end of each treatment.

For something more immersive than a massage parlour, consider spending a few hours at Atta-Rak Spa. Located in Krabi Town and open every day from 10am onward, this spa specialises in several different types of massages across a range of prices. Each massage begins with a cold lemongrass drink and cold lemongrass-scented face towels, your choice of body scrubs and body oils. The price of the Atta-Rak spa is slightly higher than the massage parlours around it, but it's a much more enveloping experience, with Thai-inspired décor and special clothes for certain massages, such as the Thai massage. The higher prices can also be explained by the longer length of the massages, which can take between one and three hours.
