June Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Kotor in June

Summer strolls into Kotor Bay with sunshine galore and excellent temperatures, an overall dry air accompanied by cooling evening breezes and just an occasional shower here and there to maintain the green lushness of the flora surrounding the Old Town.

Temperature

The average temperature is a beautiful 23°C (73°F), with nights refreshingly cool at 15°C (59°F). The hotter days go boldly into 28°C, so make sure you pack both short and long sleeves the substantial differences between night and day might take you by surprise otherwise.

Sunshine Hours

The days are long, with up to 9 hours of glorious sunshine and chances of clear skies well over 50% on average, while chances of rain drop once more.

Rainfall

The average rainfall expected for June is only 65mm spread over a total of 6 days in the month, most of it translating into 5-minute sprays every other day or so. Humidity is low at 58% on average, keeping the air clear and fresh.

Wind

Wind speeds are also low at about 41kmh, most of them southern breezes from down south near the North-African regions.

Sea Temperature

The sea temperature in the bay area jumps to a beautiful 24°C (75°F), mainly because the ria itself is a smaller body of water and thus easily warmed by the abundance of sun expected during the first month of summer. Warm currents sneak in from the eastern coast of Italy as well, making the shallow waters near Kotor's shoreline perfect for swimming, diving and snorkelling. Despite its lack of sandy beaches, the region boasts friendly and calm waters during this time of the year. We do recommend packing some sun lotion if you're planning a holiday on the Montenegrin coast, as the unprotected skin will suffer after prolonged exposure.

Hotel Casa Del Mare Amfora is an excellent accommodation choice in June, offering splendid double and superior suites. All the rooms feature a stylish décor with plush lounge area and flat screen TV, as well as a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the splendid Bay of Kotor. The suites are tastefully decorated and complete with elegant furnishings, featuring a spacious lounge area with flat screen TV, private bathroom, air conditioning and terrace overlooking the cliffs, the burnt tile roofs and the deep blue waters of the Riviera surrounding Kotor. Kotor Beaches for June

Since the sun is so generous and the water so warm and friendly, make sure you make your way down to one of the beaches that Kotor has to offer. Don't be put off by the absence of sand these pebbled strips skirting the shoreline make up for it with breath-taking views, calm and crystalline waters, plenty of natural shade and refreshing breezes even at midday. One excellent location and a favourite amongst the locals is Orahovac Beach, sunny throughout the day and about a kilometre long. Its harmonious melange of water, beach, natural greenery and whitewashed houses lining it through the outskirts of Kotor make it a great place to be peaceful, clean and quiet, in perfect balance with its natural setting.

Bars and Restaurants

Konoba Stari Grad can be found in the neighbouring town of Budva, and specializes in an impressive traditional cuisine with modern influences. The fish is simply out of this world, cooked in a typical Mediterranean fashion one of the highlights of this wonderful venue is the octopus ragu; because the preparation method is so laborious and requires hours of slow cooking of the pulp in tomato sauce, a special reservation must be made if you're looking to try this particular dish. Other specialties include selections of local cheeses and a fantastic smoked ham originating from the Njegushi region of Montenegro, as well as a comprehensive wine list, which also includes Montenegrin wines, fresh and crisp.

If you want to spoil yourself a little further, you can also try the upscale Perla Restaurant and Lounge, also in Budva, only a couple of miles from Kotor's Old Town. The venue maintains a fabulous international cuisine, which is bound to satisfy pretty much any taste, enriched by a surprisingly wealthy wine list which includes both local and international labels. The atmosphere is also part of its selling point, boosted by a modern and stylish design, its terraces open out to the splendid blue sea, and artists playing live music often grace its stage.

Havana is the place to be at night, particularly during the weekend! It all starts from a central bar serving exotic and tasty cocktails, flanked by Cuban art and flamboyant rhythms piercing through the high quality sound system. This venue literally takes over a little piazza on the dark side of Kotor's Old Town, and it's known for its projections of sports and music videos on the walls of the neighbouring building. People come here from all over town to enjoy the music, the vibrant atmosphere and the reasonably priced drinks a summer night's dream!

Things to do in Kotor in June

Now that the weather is just so close to perfect, the summer season brings about a wide variety of both land and marine activities worth engaging in while visiting Kotor. One such activity is Stand-Up-Paddling at Kotor Bay, which is all about exploring the bay area waters and surrounding scenery while standing up on a paddleboard. The tour will take you around the splendid island of San Marko, as well as the breath-taking Island of Flowers, which can be found nearby the equally stunning Solila Nature Reserve, home to many fascinating endemic species of flora and marine fauna. Stand up paddling is a low impact water sport, extremely popular with most age groups, and requires initial briefing and training in order to get used to the standard equipment. However, once that's out of the way, you can certainly enjoy this sport on the hotter days of June, while exploring the surrounding nature of Kotor's Bay.

While you're here, make sure you also take the Private Pearls of Montenegro Private Tour from Dubrovnik, an ample excursion guided by English-speaking professionals who will take you to some of the best spots that this small but gorgeous country has to offer. You'll certainly enjoy the scenic ride through charming locations like Budva, Kotor and its Old Town, Sveti Stefan and beautiful Perast. The tour itself starts in Dubrovnik, and it's a one-day trip guaranteed to leave you with an excellent impression and great memories. You'll be taken along the rocky shorelines and through historical parts of the bay area, visiting medieval and classical landmarks, including Renaissance churches and Baroque palaces dating back from the Venetian period. The highlight of the tour will most likely be the short boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, Kotor's little jewel a man-made islet, smack in the middle of the bay and home to a beautiful church and a quaint little gift shop.
