What's the weather like in Koh Tao in September?

Koh Tao is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand. The island has a more relaxed vibe than nearby Koh Samui and Koh Phangan but is still a popular tourist destination, especially for those who want to give diving a go; Koh Tao has some of the best diving spots in the whole of Thailand and many diving schools. The island's sub-tropical climate is also a big draw to sun worshippers.

Rain

September marks the end of the South West monsoon and the beginning of the North East monsoon winds. These bring heavy rains and tropical storms from September to November, which is why these months are known as the wet season. September actually has a lower rainfall average compared with August but that level will increase in the next two months. The average rainfall is 141mm with around 18 days of rainfall a month and a 36% chance of wet weather. The rain often comes in heavy afternoon storms which pass quickly.

Temperature

Temperatures are fairly consistent throughout the year in Koh Tao and remain high in September. The average temperature is the same as August, at 28°C with highs reaching 31°C. Nights are a little cooler, with an average low of 24°C. Humidity levels are also high, which means that the heat can feel very sticky at times.

Nang Yuan

Koh Tao's hot temperatures and sunshine provide perfect beach weather all year round. The island has many amazing beaches, but for some of the best scenery in the whole of Thailand, many tourists head to the nearby island of Nang Yuan.

The island is made up of three small islands connected by a sandbar and is recognised as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with turquoise water and soft white sand. Nang Yuan is just 400 metres north of Koh Tao and is easily reachable by boat taxi or daily ferry service. Activities on the island include snorkeling and the famous island-to-island zipline.

Full Moon Party
