Ko Samui Weather for October 2021

What's The Weather Like In Ko Samui In October

Falling in the middle of the monsoon season, October is an extremely wet month in Ko SamuiTemperatures are still high, too, as they always are on the island. The average daily temperature in October is 27°C, one degree less than September. The daily high temperature ranges around 30°C and the daily low is about 24°C, both also one degree less than the previous month. Those daily highs and lows decrease slightly in the course of the month. October 1 is the warmest day of the month with highs of 31° and lows of 26°C; October 31 is the coldest with highs of 30°C and lows of 24°C.

That average daily low is in fact as cold as it ever gets in the resort, so you could go to worse places! Similar to most tropical seaside resorts, the heat tends to become uncomfortable around noon, and it is best to go sightseeing in the morning and evening, in between rain showers. The water of the Gulf of Thailand also gets one degree colder.

    Sea Temperature

The sea temperature is now 27°C, which is exactly the same as the air temperature.

October gets extremely rainy, as one of the monsoon months, with a monthly total of 290mm of rainfall. The month also has no less than 16 days of precipitation, which is the highest number in the year and a full five days more than September. October is the second-wettest month of the year, after November. An average October day has an average chance of 56% that it will rain. There is little variation in that percentage in the course of the month. The day with the highest chance of rainfall in October, but also in the whole year, is October 25 with a 57% chance.

Three types of precipitation are observed in October: light rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms. Light rain is the most common and occurs on 46% of all rainy days. Thunderstorms come in second with a 36% chance. Moderate rain is experienced on 17% of the days of rainfall.

The number of fog days has increased a lot since last month. There now are five. Another increase is seen in the average humidity, which now ranges around 85%.

Being such a wet month, it comes as no surprise that the amount of cloud cover is also very high in October. Cloud cover ranges around 87% in the course of the month and doesn't change much. The absolute high is observed on October 5 with 88% of cloud cover. This is also the record high for the entire year.

    Sunshine Hours

Besides a lot of rain, there is another consequence of high cloud cover. It greatly restricts the amount of sunshine that reaches the beaches. As such, October only has 6 hours of sunshine per day, a number that hasn't varied much for five months now. This average of 6 hours is observed from May through November, which is when the mini-monsoon and actual monsoon season happen. The length of the days in October doesn't change much either. The longest day is October 1 with a total of 12.02 hours of daylight, while October 31 is the shortest with 11.47 daylight hours, a monthly decrease of only 15 minutes.

    Ko Samui Beaches For October

    Silver Beach

Just north of Lamai Beach lies less-known Silver Beach. This 250-meter-long tropical beach is located in a pretty little bay between Lamai and the hills and cliffs that separate the beach from Chaweng. The beach is locally known as Haad Thong Ta-khian (the Beach of the Ta-khian Trees). Silver Beach is home to four hotels and restaurants that essentially own the entire beach. However, even if you are not staying at one of the hotels, you are still allowed to access the beach and snorkel and swim in the comfortably warm waters. Rocks lie at both ends of the beach, offering excellent snorkelling opportunities. Sea kayaking is also a popular activity in this small area.

    Bars And Restaurants

    H Bistro

H Bistro is without question one of the best restaurants in Bophut. As the signature and award-winning restaurant of Hansar Samui Resort, it focuses on cuisine of the highest level served in a classy and trendy setting. It faces the seafront and has the capacity to seat 46 diners inside and an additional 28 on the outside terrace. The food is inspired by the French Mediterranean, but vegetarian and Thai food can be enjoyed as well. Its food is imported from all around the world; there are Maine lobsters, but also oysters from France and Japan. This is an excellent place for a fancy dinner or sunset cocktails.

    Shack Bar & Grill

Another good option in Bophut is Shack Bar & Grill, an all-time favorite in the heart of Fisherman's Village. Unlike many other restaurants, The Shack doesn't have a sea view, but instead relies on great food and service. The restaurant is essentially an open-sided wooden cabin and specialises in wonderful wines, grilled and barbecued meat, and Tex-Mex food. An open kitchen gives out appetising smells of fish and meat to people walking by, while a second kitchen is a 'normal' kitchen where cooks prepare sides, starters and desserts.

Things To Do In Ko Samui In October

    Samui Go Kart

While Ko Samui is all about beaches, excursions, nightlife and nature, there are also some less-expected things to do. One of them is go karting. Samui Go Kart is located on the ring road in Bophut. It has a 500-metre track marked with white-and-red-painted old tyres. You can choose between three different types of karts.

The first one is for beginners and children and reaches speeds up to 40 km/h. The second type is suitable for more experienced drivers and can go up to 75 km/h. Daredevils and speedsters may opt for the third type, which reaches speeds up to 125 km/h. There are also double karts available, ideal for a parent and a child. A shaded viewing area allows people who don't want to drive to see others speed around the tracks. Snacks and drinks are available as well. Samui Go Kart is open every day from 9am to 9pm.

    Snake Farm

Another suggested activity, especially on one of October's rainy days, is visiting the resort's snake farm, located in the jungle of southwestern Ko Samui. There you can get up-close to some of Thailand's most feared animals. The farm features snake shows, as well as centipede and scorpion shows. Snake shows last two hours and take place every day at 11am and 2pm. These entertaining, yet informative, shows consist of snake charmers who make the snakes dance, spit, strike and bare their fangs.

The snakes used in these shows are pythons and king cobras. Shows also include toned-down cock fighting. The centipede and scorpion shows essentially feature a man and woman standing motionless while dozens of those creatures walk all over them. The hosts, a couple, are known as the Scorpion Queen and Centipede King and both hold Guinness World Records. In addition to shows, there is also a reptile zoo, where you can see mongooses, snakes and crocodiles.

    Samui crocodile farm

More crocodiles can be seen at the Samui crocodile farm in Bophut. The farm has all kinds of prehistoric reptiles, such as caimans, Siamese crocodiles, saltwater crocodiles, but also snakes and lizards. Crocodile shows can be enjoyed three times per day and are exciting and fun to watch. Highlights are when the trainer uses the croc as a chair and sticks his head in the animal's mouth. You may even be able to pet the crocodile after the shows, although only its tail! In addition to the crocodile show, there is also a snake show and a small exhibition of stuffed animals. Other animals that you can see on the farm are parrots, monkeys and otters.
