What's the Weather like in Phi Phi in July

Temperature

July is a part of the wet season in Koh Phi Phi meaning sporadic rainfall in the afternoons and mostly cloudy days with fewer crowds around the island. The ferries to Koh Phi Phi still run and are the safer option than a speed boat as the waters can get a bit choppy. You can expect there to be light air, but not much more than that, unless there is a storm.

The average temperature during July is 28 C (82.4 F), which is a standard temperature range for Koh Phi Phi during the summer months. The highs and lows at the start of July are around 30.8 C (87.4 F) and 25 C (77 F) with the chance of rainfall at above 50%. As the month progresses the highs stay relatively still until they begin to dip at mid-month to 30 C (86 F) with the lows remaining around 25 C (77 F) for the whole month with slight fluctuations.

At the end of July the highs shoot back up to 30.8 C (87.4 F) on average marking a rise in temperature that begins in August making the end of July the hottest time of the month. Rainfall dips at mid-month to below 50% making the middle of July a great time to enjoy the beach with less chances of rain. Towards the end of the month chances of rainfall come back up to 50% to start off August.

Rain

The amount of rainfall rises in July from the previous month, but the amount of days remains unchanged at 273 mm divided into 18 days. Rainfall in July is quite even between thunderstorms, light rain, and moderate rain, so do not expect the weather to completely destroy your vacation. You can expect clear mornings with rain in the afternoon that happens in short and heavy bursts.

Average Sea Temperature

The average sea temperature falls by 1 in July from the 3 previous months to 29 C (84 F) which is still a great temperature to swim in and a normal temperature in Koh Phi Phi. The average daily hours of sunshine is around 6 hours daily which is mostly due to the cloudy skies that occur throughout the wet season. It is safe to expect cloudy skies throughout July with occasional sunshine as the clouds move around throughout the day.

Phi Phi Hotels in July

The Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort is one of the biggest resorts on Koh Phi Phi with many restaurants and bars along the beach, a recreation center, 2 spas, a pool, and a tennis court. They provide luxurious beach villas and bungalows on the beautiful Long Beach or standard rooms. This resort is about 20 minutes away from the pier and Tonsai Village, but this makes it quiet at night for an undisturbed sleep away from the party environment.

Another remote hotel resort where you can relax from the main island bustle is the Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island. This resort also has a bunch of restaurants and bars near it since it is located close to the Outrigger Resort. This hotel includes a bar, a fitness center, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and free wifi with access to its own private beach. You can also ask the staff to set up a dinner on the beach for a romantic dinner by the ocean.

Phi Phi Beach for July

Being that Koh Phi Phi is an island, there are many places to hit the beach on the main island and the surrounding ones. Although it is recommended to see all the beaches on Koh Phi Phi there are a few that stand out.

For a more secluded beach on the northern part of the island try out Laem Tong Beach. This beach is kept clean and is away from the buzz and party life of Tonsai Bay and Village which are further down south. There are nearby accommodations at restaurants and shops along the Holiday Inn and Zeavola Resorts, so bringing your own food and drink is not needed.

Another isolated beach is Ao Ton Sai with its confusing direction this beach is a hidden gem and a great place to get lost on Koh Phi Phi when you need a little time for yourself. This beach is usually clear after 2pm when most day tours are over and also bring your own food and drink as there are no accommodations around. If you feel like staying the night you can find bungalows for rent at the end of the beach right below a rock face that can be climbed.

Bars and Restaurants

Dining out and partying on Koh Phi Phi is like Hydrogen, very abundant. It really depends on what you prefer to eat and drink, but fortunately Koh Phi Phi has a large variety of cuisines and drinks for you to choose from. If you are feeling some great authentic Thai food you can go to Le Grand Bleu which is the pinnacle of fine dining in Koh phi phi.

If you are craving something a bit more casual with Western food try out Trocadero Diner. This diner has a great inexpensive price range and even more so in July as it is low season. It is also great for burgers and French fries which can be a great relief from Thai food which can be found in many places on the island.

Koh Phi Phi is famed for its nightlife so it is definitely worth a visit to Carlitos Beach Bar while you are there. At night you can catch a fire show on the beach while listening to great music from the DJ and drinking a cocktail.

Things to do in Phi Phi in July

Although it is wet season, most attractions are still available in Koh Phi Phi and open depending on how the weather is at a certain time of the day. If you are looking for a great diving adventure try out the Phi Phi Scuba Diving Center. Things included are lunch on the boat, access to diving sites with turtles, sharks, and a wide variety of colorful fishes, and certified courses.

If you are looking to increase your culinary skills, visit Pum's Cooking School to learn how to cook authentic Thai Cuisine. You will learn firsthand how to cook great Thai meals and take home an authentic cookbook for practice. A good tip would be to remember to book early as this place is usually full.

Another great way to relax in Koh Phi Phi is by joining a yoga group over at Keiritas Yoga. This place has locations around the island including an underwater room at the Phi Phi Marine Park and Mama Beach which is a wooded deck on the sand overlooking the ocean.
