Sorted by popularity:

Ko Phangan is an idyllic paradise-like island located in the Gulf of Thailand, in the south-east of the country in the Surat Thani Province. It is a popular backpackers' destination and a wonderful place to head for a holiday thanks to its delightful combination of gorgeous beaches, stunning natural scenery, clear blue waters and fantastic weather. It has two sister islands: the larger Ko Samui to the south and the smaller Ko Tao to the north both of which are also extremely popular with sun and fun seeking travellers.

Ko Phangan's temperatures vary throughout the year from 20C to the 36C. The island has a tropical climate and experiences a dry season from January to April, and a wet season from May to January. May to September is marked by rain and sunshine, while October to December receives heavy rainfall due to the island being subject to monsoons. Monsoon rains are usually relatively short lived, and readily welcomed by the surrounding verdant vegetation.

Ko Phangan in January can easily reach an average high of 29C during the day, and won't dip below 24C. Rainfall is expected to hit 144mm, although the sun is due to shine for 8 hours a day and the sea is a pleasant 28C.

Ko Phangan offers plenty of fun stuff to do, so book up on an adventure tours and enjoy exploring the island. Exhilarating boat excursions are organised by the Ang Thong National Marine Park.

In January the island celebrates with a Full Moon Party, a massively popular event for high-spirited young backpackers looking to let their hair down with the help of strong Thai whiskey and scantily-clad frolics in the sea.  Haad Rin beach is the most popular beach for letting your hair down under the light of the moon.

The Santhiya Resort and Spa is situated on one of the island's most pristine beaches and is the perfect place to rejuvenate both mind and body.

Beachlounge is a welcoming eatery with reasonable prices, a good selection of wine and tasty Thai dishes.
