November marks the start of the dry season in Khao Lak, Thailand, when the resort experiences a lot less rain than the previous months, just like in Ko Samet. Khuk Khak Beach is wide and long, with a few lagoons and rivers here and there. It's a quiet beach with just a handful of restaurants, supermarkets and massage huts. They serve traditional Thai seafood dishes from 8 to 22 right off the Bang Niang Beach. If you're trying to impress a date, try The Candle (Soi Bang Niang #1), for its classy Thai menu with international touches. With its brickwork exterior, Thai wine list and innovative dishes, this is the place to impress.

La On Village on Khao Lak is popular with the modern crowd. Try 9 Restaurant & Bar (Central La On), which serves three meals a day in a quiet and classy atmosphere. Or the wildly popular Muan Lai (Highway 4 between Khao Lak Beach and La On Village), a bright, yellow restaurant specialising in north-eastern Thai cuisinerilled meats adorned in sticky rice and spicy sauces.

Kinnaree Bakery (Central La On) serves sandwiches, patisseries, ice cream and cakes on a laid-back terrace. Opens at 9AM, so be sure to head there for breakfast. Those staying at Khao Lak Seaview and Suwan Palm Resort will find a chill home at La Piccola Maria (Nangthong Road), complete with outdoor chairs, an Italian menu and free use of a laptop.

Loy Kratong, one of Khao Lak's most romantic festivals, takes place in November. People head to the coast with candles, incense and coins with the aim of sending them out to sea. When the sun sets, it's common to see paper lanterns with a candle in the centre floating up into the night sky.

Golfers will be happy to hear that there is a number of greens in Khao Lak. Tublamu Royal Navy Golf Course is one of the best 18-hole courses and is situated a short distance south of the resort. Because it's located in one of the region's most stunning bays, the course boasts fantastic coastal vistas on one side and incredible woodland landscapes on the other.

Walkers will be thrilled to know that Khao Lak boasts a selection of hiking and walking trails. Guided tours along the coast are easy to arrange at your hotel, or if you'd prefer something a bit more laid-back you can opt for a boat trip along the Khlong Thap Liang estuary.

The Old Takua Pa Sunday market is a fantastic place to visit to enjoy a spot of lunch or a snack. Located several kilometres north of the resort, this market is lined by colourful buildings which provide many photo opportunities.
