October Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather Like in Kalakn in October

October is the final month of a long summer season in Kalkan, and you will notice tourist attractions and restaurants beginning to close towards the middle of the month, although many will still remain open to the end of the season, especially the larger hotels and bigger attractions around the area.

Temperature

The final month of summer is still a very mild month overall, although it shouldn't be described as hot. There are certainly still some very warm days to be had, and a sun tan is still a very real possibility. The average temperature sits at around 18°C, however it can rise to around 24°C on the particularly warm days, before dropping to around 11°C during the evenings, meaning a good night's sleep is certainly possible now the evenings are cooler, although a jacket or cardigan may be required for evenings out.

Sunshine & Sea Temperature

The sun still shines for around an average 10 hours per day, and swimming in the sea is still perfectly fine, with an average water temperature of 24°C in the Mediterranean, meaning beach days are certainly on the cards for the entire month.

Rainfall

The only other difference is the tendency towards more in the way of rain than the previous three or four months, such as August for example. The month on average experiences 56mm of rain throughout its entirety, which can affect up to 6 days to some degree this is still very minimal however, and generally isn't prolonged.

If you're wanting a cheap beach break before the winter season kicks in, the final month of the summer season is a great time to visit the resort, and the end of the month in particular will be a much more laid-back affair compared to the few months previously, showing you more in the way of authentic Turkish life around a resort which has managed to retain much of its old-fashioned charm.

Hotels in Kalkan in October

Hotel Asiyan

The final month of summer still brings many guests to Kalkan, and October is the perfect time to enjoy the resort in quieter surroundings. Hotels will generally be quieter, and this means a more peaceful holiday overall. The Hotel Asiyan is very centrally located and will certainly tick that quiet holiday box. The gardens and pool give you plenty to relax by during the day, and the on-site restaurant will feed you breakfast and lunch with the healthiest of ingredients.

Kalkan Dream Hotel

Alternatively, Kalkan Dream Hotel is around ten minutes from the seafront, and you can enjoy breakfast by the pool every morning, taking in the beautiful surroundings. The snack bar will also fill your belly throughout the day.

Courtyard

On a more authentic note, Courtyard is a classically restored building in Turkish and Greek architecture, with a traditional mosaic courtyard its main feature. The gardens are beautiful, and you can enjoy breakfast amongst the wonderfully scented olive, jasmine, and palm trees.

Hit the beach

Olu Deniz

Whilst you're in the vicinity, it would be a crying shame not to head to beautiful Olu Deniz and visit the famous Blue Lagoon. This is one of the most photographed beaches in all of Turkey, and is probably the one you will see on travel brochure pictures. There is an entrance fee to the beach, as it is a protected area, however it is more than worth it for the peace and serenity. Water-sports are plentiful here, and paragliding is a very popular activity, with truly stunning views.

Bars and Restaurants

Yakamoz Restaurant Cafe & Bar

October means a quieter resort, but there are still plenty of places to eat and drink in Kalkan. Ada Patisserie Café Bistro is always a popular choice no matter what the month, and is a great place to stop for coffee and cake on the go. Alternatively, Yakamoz Restaurant Café & Bar is set in picturesque gardens, overlooking the marina and sea. This is a great place to head simply for drinks as well as food, to enjoy the relaxing ambiance.

Begonvil Cafe

If traditional Turkish fare is what you're looking for then keep your eyes peeled for Begonvil Café. This is a very small Turkish restaurant, which has a very Mediterranean feel to it, sat on the cobbled streets outside. The shish kebab here comes very highly recommended.

Things to Do in Kalkan in October

Lycian Way

Less crowds and more temperate weather means hiking is a great activity to enjoy in October, both in and around Kalkan. The Lycian Way runs through and past the resort, and whilst you might struggle to hike all of it, at 509km, you can at least head through some of it. This particular trail is famous, and runs from Fethiye, across to Antalya, passing through many towns and villages along the coast. Here you will get a taste of the true Mediterranean, with beautiful views and scenery as you go. You don't need permits for camping and hiking, however there are a few archaeological sites along the way which have entrance fees. The trail is marked, however a map and guidebook on the trail will help you get the most out of it.

Mouse Island & Snake Island

If walking seems like too much trouble, then the weather is certainly still good enough to head off on a boat. Just outside of Kalkan Bay you will find a set of two islands which are named 'Mouse Island', and 'Snake Island'. These seem to almost float on the water and are uninhabited apart from mountain goats the owner visits daily to feed them and give them water. There are boat trips from the harbour most days, with swim stops en-route, and you can see the goats skipping down the mountains as you near the islands.

Lighthouse

You might just prefer to stay in Kalkan itself, and in that case a walk along the picturesque harbour is a wonderful activity of an afternoon. There are several cafes and restaurants along the stretch, and a small pebbly beach. There is also a lighthouse with wonderful views, and an ice cream parlour. If you choose to head here for breakfast, you can watch the fishing boats come in and go out again, with that day's fresh catch truly authentic.
