What's the Weather like in Kalkan in February

Precipitation

Cupid makes an appearance in February, and with that he brings less in the way of rain to Kalkan, when compared to the previous couple of months. Although certainly not the driest month of the year, the resort experiences only 125mm of precipitation on average, which affects 10 days throughout the month.

Sunshine

On top of this, the average daily sunshine hours are on the up too, at around 8 per day. Whilst you might not get a suntan at this time, you will experience plenty of bright sunshine, which during winter is certainly a novelty in most countries.

You certainly aren't going to come away from a holiday in Turkey at this time of year with the best sun tan you have ever seen, but you will experience mild weather, and this is a great time to explore in relative peace and quiet. If you are wanting to get away for a Valentine's break, the resort is quiet and relaxed at this time of year, giving you the perfect backdrop.

Temperature

The second month of the year sees an average temperature of around 8°C throughout the day, which can rise to 13°C during the warmer days of the month. Evenings are still quite chilly, with an average low of 3°C, so a jacket will certainly be required for evening walks, with a drop in temperature around the early evening time.

Sea Temperature

This is still not really the month for water-sports and swimming, with an average sea temperature of around 16°C, but there are plenty of on-land activities to enjoy now the worst of the winter weather is over, especially in the countryside around the resort itself. There are many walking trails to enjoy, and the bus service is of a high standard, linking nearby resorts, towns, and the larger cities in Turkey, which are easily reached by long-distance coach services.

Hotels in Kalkan in February

Patara Prince Resort Hotel

Luxury may be the order of the day when you visit Kalkan in February, and if you are visiting as a couple wanting a romantic break then you have plenty of choice when it comes to boutique and luxury hotels to spend your time. Patara Prince Resort Hotel is a great choice, set in very pretty surroundings, with gardens which slope down to the sea. There is an on-site a la carte restaurant, and several bars to choose from too, so you don't have to wander too far if the evening temperatures are a little chilly for you.

Club Patara Villas

Alternatively, Club Patara Villas give you a self catering option if you so wish, which is close to everything and still has on-site amenities, such as coffee shops and bars. If it's luxury you're after however, then it has to be Rhapsody Hotel & Spa. This is a truly opulent choice, with an on-site Turkish bath, very modern amenities, and it is also close to everything in the nearby town.

Bars and Restaurants

If you're looking for a place to head for your romantic Valentine's Day meal then there is plenty of choice in Kalkan. Less rain in February means you can head out a little further if you so wish, and that gives you more scope to explore the many eateries in the resort, both traditional and mainstream.

Yelken Café & Bistro

Yelken Café & Bistro is a great choice for those who simply don't know what they want to eat, because this restaurant basically serves everything! The seafood is particularly good here, with top class service. Alternatively, Aqua Café Bar is another popular choice with a large menu on offer, including traditional Turkish dishes.

Cafe Vita

Café Vita is a centrally located restaurant for those who don't want to wander too far, and on those warmer days, you can sit out on the terrace and enjoy the sunshine with a pizza, which this restaurant is particularly famed for.

Things to do in Kalkan in February

Old Quarter

The quiet, chilled-out vibe in Kalkan during February, and indeed the off season in its entirety, is the perfect time to explore Kalkan on foot. The Old Quarter is a beautiful part of the resort, steeped in history and showing architecture dating back to the very beginnings of the town, which began as a fishing village. The narrow, cobbled streets are wonderful for wandering around in the plentiful sunshine which February brings, and you can stop for a tea, or cay in Turkish, or a coffee at one of the many pavement cafes. Exploring this way during the quieter times gives you the ideal opportunity to meet locals, who are very friendly, and will happily sit and chat with you about their town and culture.

Of course, shopping may be on your radar, and in that case the Old Quarter is a veritable goldmine of small, quirky shops. You will find many carpet shops here, and if you are looking to buy a traditional Turkish carpet then do be prepared to haggle a little on price, to get the best deal. The standard of carpets here is very high, from woven kilims, usually made from cottons, to handmade, heavier carpets made from wool, and in a variety of different patterns; it's interesting to note that each area of Turkey has a different traditional pattern, so the carpet itself will tell you where it heralded from.

On top of this, gold and silver is a great purchase in Turkey overall, because the prices are lower and the quality is high. Jewellery shops line the Old Quarter, so you will have plenty of choice.

Alternatively, the small Thursday market is a great place to visit to see traditional life, where locals head to get their fruit and vegetables. If you're wanting some delicious local fruit, this is where you need to go, as you will buy a bag full for very little cost, and you won't great fresher!
