Icmeler is a Turkish holiday resort located just 8 kilometres from Marmaris. Icmeler bay is on the Datcha peninsula and the town is surrounded by pine forests on three sides. Hiking and waterfront sports are the favourite activities for visiting tourists to this once sleepy fishermen's village. The typical Mediterranean climate includes hot, sunny summers and mild wet winters. Average temperatures in the summer are 25°C and 6°C in the winter.
Once a sponge divers' domain, Icmeler is now a booming destination in the Turkish Riviera. Increased tourism means access to water sports such as water skiing and scuba diving. There are also plenty of restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. Across the bay is the busy port of Marmaris. Because of the warm surrounding waters, the climate has nearly dry summers and the majority of the rainfall happens in the winter. The average sea temperature varies between 16°C and 25°C.
Summer in Icmeler offers hot temperatures and almost guaranteed. Average highs in July and August are 28°C and reach up to the 30s and even low 40s. The summer season starts as early as May with sunny days and temperatures in the low to mid 20s. The sensational weather extends until early October. Peak months of summer are July and August, when the temperatures climb to their highest point. There is almost no rainfall in July and August with an average of 11 hours of sunshine every day. Humidity is moderate at only 50 to 70 percent.
Autumn in Icmeler is also outstanding. The warm temperatures from summer continue through September with an average temperature in the mid to high 20s. Daily highs in October can also reach to the high 20s. By November, the temperatures go down to the teens and single figures. Along with cooler temperatures come wetter weather conditions with an average rainfall in November of 118mm.
Winter is a chillier season in Icmeler but it still does not get very cold and temperatures below freezing are quite rare. Lows of 2°C to 5°C are common and the weather continues to be wet during December and January. The average rainfall during these wintry months is about 170mm. In December and January, there is an average of 13 to 14 days per month with rainfall. There are, however, still plenty of sunny days in Icmeler with temperatures soaring into the double digits.
Spring is a fantastic time to visit Icmeler, especially for travellers who are uncomfortable during the bustling hot weather season in the midsummer. By May it often feels like summer has started already with temperatures going up to the 20s and an average of 9 hours of sunshine each day.
The natural conditions in Icmeler protect it from the sea and storms throughout all the seasons. In July and August, the heat can be overwhelming to those who are sensitive to hot weather conditions. The stormiest conditions exist in December and January, when the weather is still mild but the area gets the majority of its rainfall. The climate is ideal for sun worshippers and people who prefer mild weather conditions throughout the year. There is usually no snow in Icmeler but heavy hail in April 2010 was mistaken for snow.
