December Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Hua Hin in December

While cooler than the rest of the year, December is also the driest month in Hua Hin.

Temperature

The average temperature keeps things warm at 26°C (78°F), with a low end at 22°C, meaning the nights are wonderfully cool and breezy. The hotter days are expected to reach 29°C on average, still beyond perfect weather for all kinds of swimming and other beach activities. Humidity is pleasantly low at 70% on average, keeping the air dry and the overall atmosphere extremely pleasant and comfortable. We could easily say that December is one of the best times to visit Hua Hin.

Sunshine Hours

There are up to 9 superb hours of sunshine in the day, and chances of bright and sunny days are high at 79% on average. Chances of clouds are down at 6% and chances of rain are even lower at 2% on average. There's barely any rainfall to be taken into account, at just 10mm over maybe one day in the entire month. So pack sunglasses and SPF protection if you're looking to spend your Christmas and New Year's Eve in Thailand, because that is basically all you will need, aside from swimsuits and shorts!

Wind

Chances of windy days are up at a scarcely noticeable 2% on average, with wind speeds measuring 2m/s, most of them northern and north-eastern cool gusts. They make for excellent kiteboarding and parasailing weather though, in combination with bold tropical currents now flowing through the Gulf of Thailand, causing choppy waters and fun waves to play with.

Sea Temperature

The water temperature is equally wonderful, as the sea stays warm at 28°C (82°F) on average. It's still great for swimming, deep diving and snorkelling and still definitely perfect for midnight swims. That's one kind of December we really wouldn't want to miss out on!

Hua Hin Beaches in December

Ao Mae Rampheng and Ao Bo Thonglang

In the southern extremities of the Prachuab Khiri Khan province lie two extremely beautiful and slightly secluded beaches, unspoiled by throngs of tourists or the perils of modern industrialization. Ao Mae Rampheng and Ao Bo Thonglang open out to the scenic and pristine bays of the Bang Saphan district.

They're about 90km away from Hua Hin, but worth the ride or drive for a multitude of reasons. First of all, you'd be looking at approximately 90km of splendid natural scenery and rural villages dotting the road. Second of all, both beaches are lined with sea pine trees and riddled with rock formations which make them great for snorkelling. Third of all, the waters are clear and shallow, catching a shade of turquoise as they get deeper further up ahead.

And most importantly, they catch great sun and gentle breezes, making them perfect for long sun tanning or swimming sessions. They're practically undisturbed as well, so you'll find them quiet and peaceful throughout the month of December.

Bars and Restaurants

The Palm Bistro & Wine Bar

Hua Hin is filled with great places to eat at, from corner shops to fine dining restaurants. One excellent option is The Palm Bistro & Wine Bar, a lovely spot with moderate to high prices, serving a variety of authentic Thai, Italian, European and British cuisine, and it also features an appealing wine bar. Another great place is Dacha Restaurant, which features some traditional Eastern European dishes on its generally Italian Thai fusion menu, inclusive of pizza and pasta specialties.

The Jek Be-Ak

The Jek Be-Ak brings a taste of Korea alongside its Thai and fresh seafood dishes, and it's definitely a favourite amongst the locals. For some late night fun pass by the Heaven Music & Wine Bar, a warehouse style bar at the corner of Soi Bintabat and Naresdamri Road, featuring live music, coyote shows and a diverse drinks menu.

Things to do in Hua Hin in December

Chatchai Market

You must visit the lovely Chatchai Market, the city's bustling daytime activity. It resides in a historic building dating back from 1926, with a distinctive seven-eave roof in honour of King Rama VII. It offers the usual market refreshments: morning vendors selling bah-torng-goh (Chinese style doughnuts, absolutely delicious!) and gah-faa boh-rahn, and ancient style coffee spiked with sweetened condensed milk, among other local delicacies, as well as all-day noodle dishes with freshly made wontons and an impressive assortment of fresh fruit.

Thai Thai Massage

You should spoil yourself for this Christmas holiday with an authentic Thai massage at the brilliant Thai Thai Massage. Hotel Spas are usually part of luxury chains and resorts and thus quite pricey. But this respectable and clean parlour is very affordable while still offering the pampering extravagance of a proper traditional rub down, complete with aromatherapy and phenomenal herbal teas to keep you company. If you're on the chase for enlightenment and absolute relaxation, this is where you want to start, in the hands of friendly and extremely professional masseuses.

Sam Roi Yot National Park

There are a couple of amazing places to visit here in Hua Hin. One mandatory stop should be the Monkey Island. One day tours are available to book from the city, taking you out on a reconditioned fishing boat down the clear waters all the way to the heart of Sam Roi Yot National Park, where Monkey Island awaits. Spend some time with these quirky and extremely social creatures which populate the island, bask in the sun and go for a swim, after which you can even enjoy a sweet water shower or a brief fishing session.

Pranburi Mangrove Swamp & River Cruise

You should also try the Pranburi Mangrove Swamp & River Cruise, through which you can witness the beauty of the countryside from the comfort of a small motorboat, watch fishing boats returning from the sea to the docks and simply take in the natural splendour around you. Most importantly, you can take a walk on the elevating platform built above the mangrove swamp, the main view around which the entire trip is built.
