August Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Hua Hin in August

As Hua Hin does not experience quite the inundating monsoon weather typical for these parts of Asia, the wet season here generally manifests as simply hot and with consistent showers over less than half of the entire month.

Temperature

August is no exception, experiencing average temperatures of 29°C (84°F), with the nights staying comfortably warm at 25°C. The high end of the temperature spectrum reaches 33°C on average on the hotter days of the month, which can get unpleasant if you don't stay hydrated and with plenty of SPF protection to shield you from what is now a very intense sun.

Sunshine Hours

The days get up to 7 hours of sunshine, and chances of sunny days gently increase to 24% on average. Chances of cloudy days are steady at 32% and chances of rain stay mellow at 21% on average. This combination offers a quite friendly type of weather to enjoy while in Hua Hin, as the generous showers tend to cool the land off for a bit before it dries back up. Humidity is slightly higher at 81% on average, which might make some of the days and nights uncomfortable if your room doesn't have air conditioning but worry not, the Thais do know how to take advantage of this soothing technology and fit most of their accommodation options with air-con systems.

Rainfall

Rainfall volume rarely exceeds the 90mm average and it's mostly spread over a cumulated 12 days in the month, scattered across the weeks, this month is drier than July and September.

Wind

The winds are mellow, most of them southern and south-eastern with average speeds of 1.5m/s. While they may not be great for parasailing or kite surfing in general, the breeze will be a most welcome feel particularly in the afternoon and late evening.

Sea Temperature

The sea is perfect once again, with an average water temperature of 29°C (84°F), a steady figure for this time of the year. The water is warm and calm, wonderful for swimming and even snorkelling or deep sea diving.

Hua Hin Beaches for August

Cha-Am

August is a great time to go and visit the splendid beaches of Cha-Am, the neighbouring town area of Hua Hin, part of the Petchburi Province just 26km up north. The beach is long with soft white sand and lined with gorgeous casuarina pines. It's an absolute favourite of young families and college students, as the weekends are always busy and active with a multitude of beach bars and terraces open till late.

There are numerous bungalows, hotels and restaurants in the area, with plenty of eateries in between for a light but yummy snack. This beach is vibrant and youthful and does not bear the historical charm of Hua Hin, but its waters are warm and clean, with a shallow entrance and breath-taking views of the surrounding flora and beachside towns.

The water actually tends to get a bit choppy around this time of the year, making it a great destination for paddle boarding and parasailing. However be mindful of strong currents further out at sea, and make sure you don't bump into a jellyfish, typical for this period. However if a sting does come to happen, worry not, as most of the restaurants by the beach have good local remedies.

Bars and Restaurants

Captain Jacob's Restaurant & Bar

In terms of food, there are plenty of good eateries and restaurants around Hua Hin. In fact, you can find yummy street food served at almost any corner. A good place to try out is Captain Jacob's Restaurant & Bar, which serves a variety of European, Thai, German and Swedish cuisine a nice twist if you've had maybe too much of the local dishes. However if you haven't had enough of that, the beautiful Ketsarin Restaurant serves authentic traditional and modern Thai specialties, and the service is close to flawless. The wine list that accompanies the food is also definitely worth mentioning.

Onn Onn Corner

The Onn Onn Corner Hua Hin is a delightful little corner shop in the heart of the city, serving local Thai food and plenty of snacks on the side. It's a frequent stop-spot for travellers and late night foodies, and it's open till late. For a fun night out, you can simply go out to Soi Bintabat, Hua Hin's official nightlife street.

U Turn in Bintabat

The U Turn in Bintabat is definitely a good place to stop, best known for its friendly atmosphere, outdoor seating area and comfy loungers which complement a very generous drinks menu.

Things to do in Hua Hin in August

Phetchburi

You can catch a local bus to Phetchburi and enjoy a lovely day-long trip. Go see King Mongut's old palace of Khao Wang, on top of the hill. Parts of the palace have been converted into a museum so you'll be able to get a glimpse of some truly fascinating artefacts of that era, alongside its splendid architecture and traditional Thai design and furnishing.

Hua Hin Vineyards

Now's also a good time to visit the Hua Hin Vineyards, particularly towards the end of the month, closer to grape picking season. It's quite unexpected to find vineyards in Thailand, but it turns out that the soil and weather conditions actually help produce some great wine varieties. In fact, Thai wines gain more popularity with each passing year, and a tour of one of the country's best vineyards should definitely go on your to-do list. Nestled in a scenic mountain valley just 45km west of Hua Hin, the Vineyard offers daily tours complete with a comprehensive wine tasting, cheese platters and a delicious 3-course meal.

Events

The Hua Hin Golf Festival takes place towards the end of August, and it's quite an event, so we do recommend keeping an eye out on the local websites for dates and location updates regarding this. The Hua Hin Regatta also takes place in August, when the tides are slightly choppier and there is still plenty of sun for local boat owners to bring out their sailing beauties for a fascinating and elegant show. 12 August celebrates the Queen's birthday, and it's also associated with the nation's official Mother's Day, so if you're looking to spoil a special lady in your life, now would be a good time.
