January is mid-winter in HisaronuTurkey enjoys a Mediterranean climate, so while the weather is generally still quite pleasant for sightseeing, the winter months do see quite mild temperatures, prolonged showers and fewer hours of sunshine each day. And with its slightly elevated altitude, Hisaronu is likely to be a little cooler and windier than resorts closer to the coast.

Temperature

The average temperature in Hisaronu in January is just 9C, with highs of a very mild (but not unpleasantly cold) 13C. The highest temperature ever recorded in the area at this time is 21C, so it may still even be quite warm. Overnight, temperatures often fall as low as 4C and it will feel very much colder. Temperatures are likely to be similar across Turkey with averages of 8C and highs of 11C in Izmir, on the west coast, and an average temperature of 10C and highs of 15C in Alanya, to the south-east.

The north of the country tends to be somewhat colder and may even see a little snow at this time of year, with average temperatures in Istanbul of just 6C and highs of 8C. With lower temperatures, expect fewer hours of sunshine (just 7 each day on average in Hisaronu in January) and cooler seas (around 17C).

Golden Key Hotel

The Golden Key Hotel is a little more laid back, though without compromising on luxury, and offers purpose built villas with private saunas, study areas and swimming pools. Tucked away behind a eucalyptus grove, the private beach enjoys brisk westerly winds and is recommended as a much sought after afternoon surfing spot. Surrounded by hills, this hotel is an explorer's paradise with mountain paths and remote Roman ruins right on the doorstep.

Ozturk Hotel

The family-run Ozturk Hotel is located in a quiet part of Hisaronu, which makes it the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing break. The hotel is set amidst wonderful landscape gardens and guests are invited to make use of the complimentary breakfast buffet and visit the Turkish restaurant for dinner.

Shanghai Blues

Shanghai Blues is popular with tourists all year round thanks to its accessible menu and central location. The restaurant's large enough to cater to the crowds in the summer months, with a courtyard eating area for those nicer evenings. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food generally very good value.

Deep Blue Bar

With Fethiye a short bus ride away, there are plenty of options for an evening meal or night out. Deep Blue Bar on Hamam Sokak in Fethiye's old town district is popular during the day with tourists popping in for a coffee, and in the evening with a louder crowd for the music and live bands.

Pine Hill

If you're looking for a place to eat, try Pine Hill which offers an extensive menu packed with international dishes. This eatery prides itself on serving only the freshest locally-grown produce for affordable prices. Make a reservation to enjoy the famous Sunday roast, said to be the best in the whole of Hisaronu.

Things To Do In Hisaronu In January

Kayakoy

Ten minutes by bus and you'll find yourself in the spooky but magnificent ghost village of Kayakoy. Designated a UNESCO World Friendship and Peace Village, the stone houses have been abandoned for almost a century. Originally built in the 1700s, the town was at one time home to as many as 20,000 Greek Orthodox residents. Following World War I and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the residents abandoned the town and fled to Greece. As many as 350 homes now sit empty, with two beautiful churches and any number of fountains and cisterns crumbling in their midst. Don't miss the museum to learn more about the history of the town, and there are snacks and refreshments available in the new-build village at the bottom of the hill.

Carol & Tayfun

If your idea of a good day out is a little more active, Carol & Tayfun offers horse riding treks and lessons for a very reasonable price, including transfers to and from your hotel. They cater to all riders, from beginner to expert, young and old, and provide all necessary equipment. Treks take place on scenic routes through the pine forests above the Oludeniz Lagoon or around Kayakoy, with trained instructors and guides.

Rock Tombs of Tlos

A Jeep safari is a great activity to try whatever the weather. Travel around the countryside and visit the Rock Tombs of Tlos, see what you can catch at Yakapark and enjoy a lunch. Then it's on to Saklikent to see a hidden canyon, Xanthos to for the ruins and finally Patara to relax on the beach.

Aphrodisias

If you feel like exploring even more, take a trip to Aphrodisias. Situated on a plateau over 600m above sea level, Aphrodisias is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Turkey. Here you can see a well-preserved theatre, temple of Aphrodite, Turkish baths, an Odeon and a stadium big enough for more than 30,000 people.
