Mount Athos

While in the Halkidiki region, make your way to Mount Athos. This has been an orthodox spiritual centre since 1054. It's also known as the Holy Mountain, today it is home to over 2,000 monks that practice prayers and fulfil their spiritual needs under the same methods practiced many years ago. The island that Mount Athos is situated on is self-governing and doesn't allow women. Men are able to visit but require advance notice and a visa.
