Gumbet Weather May Averages, Turkey
What's the weather like in Gumbert in May
Towards the middle of May you will truly see that summer has arrived in Gumbet. Not only will you notice more in the way of visitors, particularly those wanting a cheap holiday before the peak summer months of July and August, but you will see that the weather has certainly taken a turn for the summery!
The average temperature at this time of year stands at a very mild 21°C, however the even better news is that temperatures are higher on particularly warm days, when the average high temperature can reach up to 26°C certainly very mild indeed. The other noticeable difference is that evenings are warmer too, with an average low of around 16°C, so although you may still need a light jacket or cardigan for evenings out, you won't be as chilly as you may have been in previous months. You probably won't be requiring air conditioning at this time of year, which cuts costs, although you will certainly be warm enough.
On top of this, you can expect around 11 hours of sunshine per day, which in conjunction with the higher temperatures, means a great chance at taking home an impressive sun tan! You're not likely to see much in the way of rain, if at all, with an average precipitation rate of around 10mm throughout the whole month, and that small amount only affects around 3 days of the month; basically, you're unlikely to notice it at all, and this is the start of a very dry summer in this region of Turkey.
Those seeking beach time will be very happy indeed, as the sea is now warm enough to enjoy swimming and water-sports, with an average water temperature of around 20°C. This means the beaches will begin to get much busier towards the end of the month especially.

Gumbert Beaches in May
May is the first real beach month of the year and whilst you can easily head to the resort's central beach, it's always a nice idea to head out and see some of the other coastal areas in the region, before temperatures get too hot to spend any considerable time in a car or bus.
Akyarlar is a nearby resort, around 25km away, and is known as being the closest point between Turkey and the Greek island of Kos. There is a small harbour to wander around in the town, however this is a great beach for anyone into windsurfing, as the constant gentle breezes are just enough to whip up some momentum. On top of this, Akyarlar is a great place to head for those traveling with families, with safe, shallow waters for splashing and swimming.
Bars and Restaurants
By the time May arrives, nightlife in Gumbet is in full swing! Those seeking clubbing should head to Bar Street after midnight, however around 1am is when the crowds arrive and the atmosphere rises. Before that however, you will need to line your stomach ahead of your night's festivities, and in that case head to Family Door. This is a great choice for steaks, and is often considered one of the best in the resort for this kind of dish.
Red Dragon Restaurant will tick that Chinese food box, however they also serve Indian and British dishes, in a very laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a meal ahead of your night of partying.
Before you head to Bar Street, check out Chico's, a vibrant bar with cocktails, drinks, offers, and music to enjoy before you head to Bar Street to dance 'til dawn.
Things to do in Gumbert in May
The season has officially started as May arrives and this means more activities to enjoy in Gumbet itself, without having to travel too far in any other direction; despite that, it is a good idea to explore a little, such as the market day in Turgetreis. This takes place on a Saturday and is a bright and vibrant experience. This is a large street bazaar, full of souvenirs, fruit, vegetables, pashminas, hand woven rugs, bags, and ornaments. The bus will take you to Turgetreis for very little cash, and you can haggle to your heart's content. A true Turkish market experience is something every visitor should have.
If you want to see more of the resort without having to walk around in very warm temperatures then a Segway tour is a fun and informative way to explore. Aegean Gingers offer various routes around the area, and Bodrum, through the streets and hills, and across coastal paths. These tours are instructed, so you not only have training on how to use the Segway, which can be tricky at first, but you also get to learn about what you're seeing and the history of it too. This is a fun way to help children learn more too, because they won't have the first clue that they're doing something educational!
Once you've found your feet in the resort, head to the back streets, away from the tourist streets and follow the locals into their favourite Turkish restaurants. There are many small establishments like this totally hidden away from tourists and they are not only more authentic, but cheaper too; ask a friendly staff member at your hotel for their advice. You can try delicious authentic dishes, such as kofte and shish kebabs, with desserts such as kunefe and baklava to enjoy afterwards.
