Beaches in Gran Canaria for February
Playa de Puerto Rico
Playa de Puerto Rico is one of the finest beaches in Mogan. This man-made bay is comprised of 250m of soft golden sands imported from the Sahara Desert which are peppered with sun loungers, parasols and visitors soaking up the sunshine. Thanks to the harbour which flanks one side of the bay, this beach is completely protected by strong waves, so the sea is always calm enough for swimming in.
The two artificial breakwaters also ensure that the shore is protected from rough seas, even when conditions are incredibly unfavourable. Backing the beach is a long promenade offering everything from international restaurants and cocktail bars to small minimarkets and tourist shops selling beach essentials.
Puerto de Mogan
If you prefer quiet beaches, you'll love Puerto de Mogan. This beach is the youngest in Gran Canaria and features thick, golden sand which stretches for 200m along the coast. Just like Playa de Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogan is also well protected on one side by a harbour wall and a rocky breakwater on the other side, which means the shore never sees rough waves.
The beach is lined by a small promenade full of local fish restaurants which serve up delicacies caught that very day. You'll find basic beach facilities here, such as sun loungers, parasols, showers, toilets and some water sports, with plenty of bars, restaurants, tourist shops, holiday accommodation and a weekly market further inland.
Bars and Restaurants
For a traditional Italian meal, make a table reservation at La Cucina. This restaurant offers a varied and exciting Mediterranean menu in cosy, intimate surroundings, making it the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two. In addition to the traditional pizzas and pastas, there's also a small children's menu on offer. Whatever you do, try and be there when the singing chef is working that's something you won't want to miss!
