Things to do in Goa in May

The Shantadurga Temple

The Shantadurga Temple is a must-see during your holiday in Goa. Situated 33km north of Panaji, this temple was originally a modest mud shrine dedicated to Shantadurga, but was transformed into an impressive temple in 1730 and was again renovated in 1966. The temple is built in a fusion Indo-Portuguese style, with pyramidical shikaras rising around the entrance hall, Roman-arched stained-glass windows, chandeliers and a balustrade flat dome. The highlight of the temple is the golden palanquin which is used to carry the deity during religious festivals. The temple's surroundings are very quiet, so you can fully enjoy the religious structure and take photos without being bothered by local vendors.

The Shri Mangeshi Temple

The Shri Mangeshi Temple is another religious structure worthy of a visit since it's thought of as being the most important in Goa and is certainly one of the most visited. The temple is located on top of a small hill at Proil, surrounded by green gardens and features two distinctive white towers at the entrance, several domes, balustrades, pilasters, a prominent Nandi Bull, seven-storey lamp tower and a water tank which is said to be the oldest part of the temple. The main part of the Shri Mangeshi Temple is dedicated to Bhagavan Manguesh an incarnation of Shiva but you'll also find shrines of the God Ganesha and Goddess Parvati inside.
