Goa Beach for June
Cavelossim Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Goa, known for its clean fine white sand peppered with dark lava rocks. Despite its popularity, the huge size of the beach means that you'll always have enough room to lie down your towel and the kids' will always have enough space to play. The sea here is remarkably clean and calm for the majority of the time, making it perfect for swimming. Cavelossim Beach does attract a few species of birds, stray dogs and cattle, but they rarely go near people, so it shouldn't put you off. Lining the beach you'll find a grassy expanse covered in shade-providing palm trees and beach shacks which offer cheap food, drinks, toilet facilities, sun loungers and shades.
Candolim Beach is an equally popular beach in Goa, tucked in between Fort Aguada and Calangute beach. This beach is one of the largest in Goa and is usually calm and peaceful, making it a great place for sunbathing and snoozing. The beach is backed by sand dunes covered in small bushes where you'll discover beach shacks offering local cuisine and freshly-caught seafood, as well as toilet facilities, sun loungers and shade. Here you'll also find a handful of water sport kiosks offering parasailing and waterskiing, as well as a designated safe-swimming area with a flag system to indicate how rough the sea is.
Bars and Restaurants
When it comes to quality food at Candolim Beach, it's tough to beat the offerings at Claudina's Shack. This eatery offers a staggeringly large menu, with traditional English breakfast options, omelettes, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, seafood dishes and vegetarian options, plus a wide selection of Chinese and Indian delicacies, on top of daily specials. The drinks menu is equally large and features teas, coffees, fresh fruit juices, milkshakes, lassi drinks, beers, alcopops, spirits, wines, soft drinks and cocktails. Every Thursday evening, Claudina's Shack also hosts a beach party buffet from 7.30pm, with 10-15 dishes, fireworks, fire jugglers, live DJ and bingo.
Zuperb Multi Cuisine
For lively entertainment, consider spending the evening at Zuperb Multi Cuisine. Located in Calangute, this restaurant serves up a fusion of Chinese, Indian and Continental dishes, with their mutton biryani, prawn patyo, kingfish curry and Goan chicken being amongst some of the most popular orders. There is also a comprehensive dessert menu available, with ice creams, brownies and cakes. Nightly entertainment comes in the form of DJs, live bands and karaoke sessions which go on until the early hours and create a great atmosphere. The drinks menu is fairly average for a restaurant in Calangute, with local and imported beers, wines, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks.
Things to do in Goa in June
Take in a bit of history and culture by visiting Fontainhas during your holiday in Goa. Known as the old Latin Quarter, situated in Panaji, this town maintains its Portuguese influence, with colourful buildings and villas with overhanging balconies and long narrow streets. One of the area's main attractions is the Chapel of St Sebastian which was built in 1880 and is best known for containing a lifelike crucifix, as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary, three carved reredors and two marquetry chests. A few steps away from the Chapel of St Sebastian you'll find the Fundacão Orienté, located in a carefully restored building and toward the end of the town you'll find Fonte Phoenix a natural spring.
Palacio do Deao
Palacio do Deao is another point of historical interest worthy of a visit during your trip. Built in the 1787 by a Portuguese nobleman, this palace faces the church built by the same man along the banks of the Kushavati River. It features a Hindu-Portuguese fusion architecture style, with lush tropical gardens full of historical features, such as balustrades, stone ornament vases, ponds, waterfall and a belvedere. There is also a heritage house where you can learn about the history of Goa, games room with chess, draughts and carom and small library with some rare books on Goa. The Palacio de Deao is also home to a restaurant overlooking the Kushavati River which serves a selection of Indian and Portuguese specialities.
