    The month of May is a pleasant time to visit Fuengirola, as the weather rarely gets too hot or too cold. Although summer is approaching, the beginning of May in Fuengirola is relatively cool, with the average daily temperature being 16.5°C (62°F), and a minimal chance of rain.

    It begins to warm up as the month progresses, with the daily average temperature for the middle of May being 18°C (64°F), and virtually no chance of rain. The end of the month brings much warmer temperatures, with the daily average being 21°C (70°F) and the already slim chance of rain falling to almost nonexistent. During the summer season, there are two restaurants in the hotel, one offering buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the other serving Mediterranean style cuisine all day. There is also a bar offering a variety of cocktails. The hotel is about a 25-30 minute walk to the city centre, but the serene atmosphere at the hotel makes up for the distance.

    The Confortel Fuengirola is a four-star hotel with several choices for room options. A standard room does not come with a sea-view, but for an additional cost, rooms with sea-views and large balconies are available. All rooms do come with air-conditioning and heating. The hotel also has an outdoor pool, a restaurant with Spanish cuisine and buffet options, a café and snack bar for smaller meals, a terrace with sea view offering drinks and bites, and an on-site bar. The hotel is about a six minute drive to the city centre. 

    Fuengirola Beach for May

    One of Fuengirola's most popular beaches in July and August, Las Gaviotas Beach, is worth visiting in May to avoid the crowds. It is also one of Fuengirola's bigger beaches, as it is almost 2km (1.2 miles) long, and about 60 meters (197 feet) wide. The beach offers umbrellas and sun beds for rent, as well as having several other services, such as public showers and toilets, as well as a children's play area. There are also a variety of rental options, such as sailing boats, paddle boats, and jet skis. Because of the popularity of this beach, there are lifeguards on duty. The beach is about 25 minutes walking from the city centre, but there is a parking area if you decide to drive.

    Just a short eight minute walk away is Restaurante Girol, offering traditional Mediterranean style cuisine with a local twist added. Their menu consists of seafood and meats, as well as desserts and a wine list that reads more like a book.

    Located just off the beach and looking out to the sea is Suave Café. This is a great place for a post-beach drink as they have a large cocktail menu and also serve a variety of wines and beers.

    Bars and Restaurants

    For a change of pace from Mediterranean cuisine try Indian Balti. This restaurant offers Indian food with typical curry dishes and staples like tikka masala and is open for lunch and dinner. They also offer food to-go if you would rather dine elsewhere. The staff is very friendly and they are able to alter most dishes to cater to your preferences. It is about a 35 minute walk from the city centre and right off of the sea.

    If you are heading back to the city centre, consider Temperley Café for some post-dinner drinks. This bar, located in the city centre, offers an extensive beer list (both domestic and imported), as well as a variety of cocktails. They also serve homemade dishes if your hunger returns. There is often live music performed at the bar as well, making this place a hot-spot among tourists and locals alike.

    Things to do in Fuengirola in May

    There is plenty of shopping in Fuengirola, but if you enjoy bartering for deals and searching for hidden gems, the Street Markets of Fuengirola are the place for you. On Tuesday and Saturday mornings a market is set up in the fair grounds of Fuengirola, located on Calle Recento Farial, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.

    The market offers both new and used items such as clothes and furniture to souvenirs and antiques. With such a wide array of options, you should be able to find whatever is on your shopping list. Although the market area is not dangerous, it is important to be cognizant of your surroundings and aware of where your valuables are, as there can be pick-pockets looking to take advantage of unsuspecting tourists.

    There is another market open on Sundays is located near the Hotel Las Pirámides, about 10-15 minutes walking from the city centre in the opposite direction of the first market. You can find similar items here, as well as ceramics and pottery.

    If you enjoy fishing and being out on the open water, check out Dean's Charter Fishing. They offer fishing trips for several types of fish or shark that can be found in the Mediterranean. There are two packages to choose from, regardless of which type of fish you'd like to catch, a full day trip which includes food and drink for 120 per person, or a half day trip for 60 per person. They also offer dolphin and whale watching trips for the same price. The boats depart from Fuengirola's port about 12 minutes walking to the city centre and are owned and chartered by native English speakers.
