    January may be Florida's coolest mid winter month but by UK standards it's delightfully warm.

    The average temperature in January is 16ºC made up from highs of 22ºC and lows of 9ºC.

    Average Sea Temperature 

    The seas that surround the Florida peninsula are much warmer than the air at this time of year. With an average sea temperature of 24°C, afternoon swims in the sea are absolutely possible in January, which is precisely why this is such a popular winter beach destination.

    Rain

    Winter falls in the middle of the driest part of the year in Florida—a period that runs from November through April. In January, Miami, the state's flagship beach resort, receives  71mm of precipitation in total and there are nine rainy days on average.

    Sunshine Hours 

    A typical January day has seven hours of sunshine per day, which is the annual minimum. This low number is also due to the shortness of the days in mid-winter. Days in January have between 10.24 and 10.51 hours of daylight.

    Florida Keys Seafood Festival

    January in Key West Florida is probably the most delicious month of the year. The Florida Keys Seafood Festival is held annually in January. The stars of the show during this yummy event are the fried clam strips, lobster bisques, stone crab claws, grilled spiny lobsters, conch chowders and seafood salads.

    Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

    While in town, also make sure to visit the abode of the famous author Ernest Hemingway at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. Located in the Old Town of Key West, this house was the very place where Ernest Hemingway spent ten years of his writing career.

    Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

    Outdoor enthusiasts will definitely want to visit the Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. This is well-worth a visit, as you can in engage in a lot of park activities, such as picnicking, swimming, bicycling, hiking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and even scuba diving.

    Vanderberg Wreck

    The dry January weather is also absolutely perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling—visibility is excellent this time of year. If you like to dive, you might want to head down deep and view the Vanderberg Wreck, an artificial reef 42 metres (140 feet) deep.

    Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Centre

    For free, yet educational, entertainment that the kids can enjoy, go to the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Centre, where they can marvel at fascinating marine life in aquariums.

    Gasparilla Pirate Festival

    25th January 2020 to 26th January 2020

    The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is a large parade and a host of related community events held in Tampa, Florida almost every year since 1904. The festival's theme is based on the legend of José Gaspar, a mythical Spanish pirate who supposedly operated in Southwest Florida from the late 1700s. The Pirate's Parade is on 25 January and features booming cannons, bold and boisterous buccaneers, glittering beads, treasures and doubloons – with a lively, enthusiastic crowd all along the 4.5 -mile parade route.
