Faro Hotels in October

The Dom Jose Beach Hotel is a great 3 star hotel in Quarteira. This hotel is 20 minutes from Faro International Airport and is steps from the beach. Dom Jose was awarded best 3 star hotel in Portugal 2012-2014. Renovated in 2011, there are 154 modern rooms with air conditioning, LCD TV, telephone, and safety box. There is a restaurant on site as well as a bar and meeting rooms.

Those looking to get away from it all, head to Herdade da Corte, located in the countryside of Tavira, this manor is an oasis. Set on a large plot of land, the setting is both peaceful and pretty. Enjoy the Algarve sun out on the terrace next to the saltwater pool that overlooks rolling hills. Rooms are large and rustic and include a wardrobe, hair dryer, air conditioning, television, and phone.

Faro Beach for October

Praia da Luz is a must when visiting the Algarve region. Located just west of Lagos, this blue flag beach is very popular during the summer, and should be moderately quieter in October. A beautiful promenade goes along the beach with loads of bars and restaurants. The beach itself consists of white sand and sits near Luz bay. Dolphins have been spotted enjoying the surf and providing entertainment. On the western end there are several rock pools to explore. On the eastern end there are white and grey cliffs carved by the sea with a distinct dark rock formation called Rocha Negra, which is a volcanic strip from Serra de Monchique that extended to the sea.

Bars and Restaurants

A great way to experience the local cuisine is to participate in a cooking class like tastealgarve. Tastealgarve is located near Tavira and offers classes that last about four hours. First, you are accompanied to a local market to select ingredients. You then participate in activities centred on your ingredients to put your meal together. There are activities for children to participate in as well. One of the options is a Cataplana Workshop. There are also picnics that can be put together for your trip to the beach.

A top place to try some Portuguese cuisine is Bioco Casa de Pasto located in Olhao. Bioco serves delicious Portuguese tapas for a great price. Some options include fresh whitebait and squid, goat cheese, and a potato and eggs dish. It is recommended to book a table as the restaurant fills up quick with locals.

Things to do in Faro in October

October is a perfect time to golf in the Algarve region. With tons of courses on offer a must-play course is the San Lorenzo Golf Course. This course borders the Ria Formosa in Quinta do Lago about 30 minutes from Faro. Consistently voted one of the top 10 courses in continental Europe, this is a must for keen golfers. Built by golf architect Joseph Lee in 1988, you will get views of the Ria Formosa, Atlantic Ocean, and even play a hole in a bird reserve.
