September Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Estepona in September

Temperature

This last month of summer only takes off some of the peaks in terms of heat, really, but other than that, September represents a glorious end of the season. The average temperature hangs slightly lower than August, at 22⁰C (72⁰F). The nights are still warm at 20⁰C, but with an increased humidity of 70% you're likely to feel just a little bit uncomfortable without air conditioning. The high average is bold at 25⁰C, best felt during the sunnier days of the first and second week of the month.

Sunshine Hours

The days are still substantially long, with up to 10 hours of sunshine, and 43% chances of sun altogether.

Rainfall

Chances of clouds slowly increase to a mere 8%, while chances of rain attempt a comeback at 16% on average, still insignificant due to the small amount of rainfall expected for September: 10mm over the course of 6 days at the most. The end of summer continues to bring a plethora of hot and sunny days, with occasional clouds and a brief cooling shower every once in a while.

Wind

Chances of windy days are still consistent at 48% on average, as the currents ever so slightly shift with influences from the north-east, on top of the usual dry south and south-eastern breezes. Wind speeds are higher as well, at an average of 2.5m/s. Expect the Mediterranean Sea to be slightly more rumbling than usual, with higher waves and choppy waters perfect for sailing and windsurfing.

Water Temperature

The underlying currents stay warm and pleasant, maintaining the water temperature at 22⁰C (71⁰F), still perfect for all kinds of marine activities from swimming to snorkelling, from paddle-boating and jet-skiing, you name it! The sea is still warm and friendly for all. But again, we wholeheartedly recommend SPF protection, as the sun can still burn in the early afternoon.

Bars and Restaurants

Escollera

Escollera stands proud in Estepona's beautiful port, opposite the lighthouse. It's a wonderful open air restaurant, typically Spanish venue opening up to the beach. It's very casual, with plastic tables and a local atmosphere, but the food is simply to die for! It's very lively, filled with locals, and it serves fresh fish every day, open for both lunch and dinner.

El Palangre

In the same port you're bound to find El Palangre as well, at Casa del Mar a typical Spanish restaurant with amazing elevated views. The large outdoor terrace is still open in September, and it's best known for its delicious paella, seafood and other Spanish dishes.

Tanino

The lovely Jazz Pub is right under the blue and white Torre de Control, featuring a large terrace and extremely popular during the summer, when they always have a guest singer with a keyboard to further light up the great atmosphere.
