El Gouna is a tourist resort on the Red Sea in Egypt, just 22 km north of Hurghada International Airport. Given Egypt's climate, it is probably no surprise that El Gouna specialises in such watersports as parasailing, snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing and kitesurfing. El Gouda has two main beaches, although its network of canals means that many houses actually their own private strip of beach.

El Gouna, Egypt is perhaps the perfect winter destination, especially for those coming from the UK. With a high average temperature of 21°C, and a low of 9°C, it is much warmer than England (and it is also the coldest month in El Gouna). It also boasts no rain in January, nine hours of sunshine per day, and a sea temperature of 22°C making it very easy to see exactly why it specialises in watersports. It's always a good idea to check the weather before setting off though, so make sure to check the 14-day forecast.

What winter holiday would be complete without some outdoor activities? El Gouda has that covered, with a golf course designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery with an afternoon practising your putting. January 7 is Coptic Christmas, thanks to the Alexandrian calendar. Visiting at this tie of year gives tourists a real insight into the cultural festivities of Egypt Egyptians will fast for 43 days before Christmas.

Situated on a peninsula with its own beachfront, there are some breath-taking views of the Red Sea. The resort also has enough facilities that you won't need to venture out of it if you don't want to, including gold, snorkelling, diving, or just time being pampered in the Angsana Spa. There are 554 rooms and suites across eight clusters, and all have excellent views over the gardens, sea or lagoons.
