Edinburgh Weather February Averages, United Kingdom
February is not much warmer than the previous month. As a result, there are still not a lot of tourists taking a holiday during this time of the year. While you may be able to score a good deal and save some money, you will need to bring plenty of heavy coats, scarves and gloves in order to ward off the winter chill. It will also be a good idea to bring some rain gear as precipitation is expected almost every day.
While Edinburgh experiences precipitation throughout much of the month, most of what falls is very light in nature. As a result, the region only totals an average of 50mm of precipitation throughout the month. With temperatures hovering near freezing, there is still the possibility of experiencing some snow, especially during the early morning hours when lows are near their coldest readings. Overall, there is measurable precipitation on 20 days of the month. To make sure you are packed correctly, be sure to check the extended forecast before leaving home. There is also not a lot of sun during this time of the year with the area only getting an average of 4 hours of sunshine per day.
Be sure to bundle up throughout the day as the overall average daily temperature is just 4°C (39°F). Overnight lows will drop to an average of 1°C (34°F) by first thing in the morning. Without a lot of sun, average afternoon temperatures will only climb to a high of 6°C (43°F). Of course, the wind can also make it feel much colder.
Once again, visitors will have to wait a few months to visit the area beaches due to the cold conditions on land and in the sea. The average water temperature for this time of the year is just 7°C (45°F).
