Djerba Weather March Averages, Tunisia
March is a time for change in Djerba. Though at the beginning of the month the weather is very much like the last days of February. By the time March is through, the weather will be drier, warmer and brighter than any of the months before.
Though April and May offer the longest number of daily sunshine hours at an average of 12 hours per day, March is not very far behind. By the middle of the month, Djerba offers a full 11 hours of daily sunshine on average, making the days warm, bright and very long.
And as the sun shines, the rain starts to dry up too. March will usually only see 5 days of rain throughout the entire month. And most of this will be towards the beginning. This means there is plenty of sunshine throughout the period with consistently nice days.
This consistency in weather conditions, without the sun being too hot, makes March one of the best months to visit Djerba. The temperature averages at 16°C, just right for outdoor strolling or a leisurely walk along the picturesque beaches of the island.
In the daytime, temperatures will usually peak at 20°C, making it possible to start enjoying the beach on occasion. But historically the thermometer has reached up to 37°C in this month, so it is wise to ensure you are prepared if the climate does start to get very warm.
And while the sea temperature only heats up one degree from the coldest month of February, at least at 15°C it is going in the right direction.
On certain days, it is possible for the temperature to get a tad colder. Late at night temperatures are usually forecast to drop to an average of 11°C, so it is wise to bring a light jacket or blazer for those very late after dinner strolls.

Things to Do
March is the time for the Tatouine Ksour Festival and a fantastic time to be on the island. This annual festival has roots going back to 1910 when it celebrated everything to do with Tunisia from Camel riding to the varied range of arts. Today, the celebrations carry on across Djerba with a wealth of music, entertainment and community events. Head to Ksour, Ouled or Soultane to be in the heart of the action. But it is likely that wherever you are in Djerba in March, there will be some sort of celebration happening.
If you enjoy seeing the Camels at the Tatouine Ksour Festival then maybe you should have a go yourself with a camel tour into the desert. You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the camel station to meet your ride before venturing into the sand dunes to experience a whole different side of Djerba. Make sure you take plenty of water because, even in March, it can get very hot. And if you like the experience, consider travelling to Tunisia itself and taking a three or six day trek across the Sahara. It's like nothing else on earth.
Restaurants and Nightlife
As the national dish of Tunisia is Couscous, it's vital to experience the flavour at its very best, which is exactly why you should book at table at Chez Chouchou. With its very warm and welcoming staff, this restaurant is known for its couscous, tempting visitors and residents alike through its doors. All dishes are made from only the freshest ingredients, so you do have to wait a while for your meal to be ready. But with plenty to drinks and a delicious ambience to keep you entertained, it's the perfect way to spend the evening.
For live music in Djerba, head down to the concert hall in Houmt Souk. The ancient amphitheatre is the home to many al fresco music and theatre events and is where most international stars will hold their concerts when passing through Tunisia. Try and book before an event as they do get very busy. But even if you can't get tickets, you can join the crowds of locals who stand outside the arena and still enjoy the music that is being played from within.
Even if you are not staying at the Palm Beach Palace, it is always worth booking a table at the restaurant within the complex. In the day, the sheltered Bedouin style tables are the perfect way to entertain friends and get out of the peak March heat. But in the evening the restaurant takes on a much more romantic atmosphere, with views heading out over the beach. Traditional Tunisian cuisine is mixed with more international dishes to ensure there is something to suit every palate. And with many fixed priced options available, there is an opportunity to enjoy this unique experience on almost any level of budget.
