January is the coldest month of the year in Dalyan, Turkey, but it can still be a good time to visit. Even though it is chilly, temperatures remain well above freezing and there is no chance of snow thanks to the moderating effects of the nearby Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, the cooler temperatures mean many tourists stay at home so there is a shorter wait for restaurants as well as the most popular attractions.

As a result, visitors will need to pack some sweaters as well as jackets to keep warm, especially in the evening hours when temperatures will drop quickly.

The Dalyan Doga Hotel only has 15 rooms, but all are made with the comfort of the guest in mind. Located in a quiet and calm part of the city, this hotel makes an excellent choice for a January holiday. Guests can enjoy a homemade breakfast and later in the day enjoy a cocktail by the poolside bar. Each room has air conditioning, a balcony and free WiFi.

Kilim Hotel is a family owned hotel that will treat each guest as a member of the family. A pet-friendly hotel, this spot offers an honesty bar where guests can help themselves and write what they have on their room tab. All rooms have air conditioning and a balcony to be able to enjoy the view.

WHAT TO DO

As long as one is prepared for cool weather and temperatures that will hover around 13°C (55°F) in the afternoon, Dalyan still has a lot to offer in January.

There are lots of year round outdoor markets to visit, though some of them only happen on the weekend. Some of the markets are more authentic than others, but good prices and good products can be found no matter which market guests choose to visit. 

For the outdoorsy and adventure type of guest, the area around Dalyan provides ample opportunities to go hiking and exploring, since the beaches and waters are too cold at this time of the year. There is one such popular trekking area between Gokbel and Iztuzu that will take around 3 hours to complete. There are plenty of places along the way for trekkers to stop and admire the views or to sit and have a snack. However, guests should be sure to examine the extended forecast before leaving to make sure they won't get caught in the rain while out on a hike.

RESTAURANTS AND NIGHTLIFE

Those who are traveling on a family holiday will enjoy eating at Temsi Restaurant. With a traditional menu, the restaurant is consistently one of the best rated in the city. Guests can get just a small snack or a complete three-course meal. Some of the highly rated menu items include lamb kabobs, filet mignon, and fresh vegetables. All meals are reasonably priced and families won't break the bank on a night out.

Run by a family, Sinan's Place is a popular spot for both the locals and tourists in the region.  The owners warmly welcome guests the minute they step in the door and then serve large portions of food. A perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the prices are always right and the food is first-rate. Some of the more popular dishes include lamb and liver. The restaurant also offers a well-stocked bar and large wine selection.

For those who are looking for something fun to do later in the evening, there are a wide array of nightspots in the city. One of the most popular spots in the city is Ottoman Karaoke and Cocktail Bar. The bar offers good, strong drinks at reasonable prices in a fun and friendly atmosphere that is welcoming to both locals and those on holiday. Guests can also try their hand at singing a few tunes on the karaoke machine and attempt to bring the house down. It is well worth a visit while in town.
