What's the weather like in Costa Teguise in July

Costa Teguise, Spain, is located on the island of Lanzarote, which holds a rich history, having been born from a series of volcanic eruptions under the Atlantic Ocean. However, the town of Costa Teguise dates from as recently as the 1980s, having been designed and built to both encourage tourism and meet existing tourism needs, most specifically the need for luxury resorts, bars, and clubs.

Temperature and Average Sunshine Hours

In keeping with the subtropical climate in Costa Teguise, July sees beautiful weather that really attracts the crowds. Overnight temperatures of 20°C may seem perfect to some, but for others it may become a bit sweaty, so be sure to look for accommodation with air conditioning. During the day, these temperatures can rise up to the high 20's, averaging around 28°C. Sea temperatures climb further, up to around 22°C, and rainfall remains a maximum 10mm on average across the month.

Throughout July, as summer is under full swing, the month is characterised by gradually rising daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 27°C and the amount of sunshine hours staying similar to May and June at 11 hours per day.

Things to do in Costa Teguise in July

Daivoon Diving Centre

As the sea temperatures rise higher, the Daivoon Diving Centre becomes increasingly popular. The diving school offers pick up from hotels in and around Costa Teguise, and takes travellers out to some of the most fascinating dive sites off the Lanzarote coastline. For beginners, there's PADI courses, and for those not keen on diving but still eager to participate, the centre also offers snorkelling excursions with a keepsake photo souvenir of the trip.

Aquarium

To escape from the heat for a couple of hours why not visit the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands the Lanzarote Aquarium. This place offers a large biological collection of native and tropical fish including fire dragons and lobsters. Visitors will even get the chance to see some sharks and engage in six touching pools, where children and adults can touch sea urchins, starfish and small crabs, whilst at the same time learning about their way of life.

Timanfaya National Park

Whilst staying in Lanzarote you should definitely visit the Timanfaya National Park. The park itself is made up of a volcanic landscape and is home to a whole array of rare flora and fauna species. The park is also home to the Fire Mountains (Montanas del Fuego) which rose up from the ground between 1730 and 1736. The last eruptions were in 1824 and due to limited rainfall, the area appears to have not changed much at all since the last eruptions. The park also features a restaurant named El Diablo, which serves delicious Canarian cuisine, which is cooked using the geothermal heat from the ground by using a cast-iron grill.

If you don't like the idea of traipsing round a hot national park why not head to Lanzarote's capital Arrecife, which is just a 15 minute drive from Costa Teguise. The city is the principal commercial centre of the island and offers a large shopping street (Castillo y Leon) that features a wide array of shops selling renowned brands and local goods. You can also stop off at a number of cafés or bars for a refreshing drink or coffee.

Dates for the diary

The official Saints day of Nuestra Senora del Carmen is held on 16th July, however there will be variety of events and celebrations taking place around mid-July.

The main events usually take place in various towns around the island including Teguise, Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen.

One of the most impressive aspects of this saint's day is the maritime procession, which includes the effigy of Saint Carmen being paraded through the town, down to the water, where it will be transported on a boat out onto the waves. The boat is then surrounded by fishing vessels, as the local fishermen make their annual blessing of the sea and pray for plentiful catch during the coming year.

Another event to look out for in the area is the annual International Jazz Festival, known as Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz and Mas Heineken.

This festival usually takes place mid-July and lasts for three weeks, showcasing a range of jazz concerts in Teguise. If you are interested, make sure to look out for posters around town nearer the time.

The ECOMAR fair will be held in Playa Honda from 10am to 4pm on 26th July. The fair will be focusing on eco friendly travel and ecological products. A number of restaurants and businesses will be participating in the event including La Terraza, Las Tasca de Lola and La Marea.

Throughout the month in Arrecife there will be an English cinema showing all the latest blockbusters as well as classic movies in English.
