What's The Weather Like In Cornwall In October

October is a great time to visit Cornwall as temperatures are still pleasant enough to spend time outdoors and this is the last month of the year that the area beaches can be enjoyed before it gets too cold. The nearby sea also allows for more moderate temperatures than some of those that are found more inland or in some of the larger cities of England. One drawback is that rain chances are on the increase and visitors may have to adjust some plans according to the extended forecast.

Rain

After experiencing several dry months, or at least dry for the region, rain chances increase significantly during this time of the year. In fact, this month ties with January as being the second wettest months in the area, after December. Overall, the region experiences an average of 110mm of precipitation.

Much of this rain is the result of frontal systems sweeping in off the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, the rain can be heavy at times as it is associated with passing thunderstorms. Additionally, these storms can produce some gales and high winds. The rain will typically fall over a period of 23 days making most of the month quite wet.

Sunshine Hours

Despite the rain, the region still sees an average of 6 hours of sunshine per day. This time can be used to explore the outdoor attractions and to take advantage of an average daily temperature of 12°C (54°F).

Temperature

Visitors will need to bundle up first thing in the morning with an average overnight low of 10°C (50°F). Afternoon highs are not much warmer with temperatures reaching an average of 14°C (57°F).

Sea Temperature

This is also the last month of the year where visitors can safely enjoy the local waters. This is due to a slow, but steady cooling of water temperatures. The water temperatures average 14°C (57°F) for the month.
