November Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in November in Chania

November marks the onset of a full and rainy autumn.

Temperature

The previous descent of average temperatures settles at 16°C (61°F), with nights getting as chilly as 12°C. The first two weeks of the month will still record average high temperatures of up to 20°C, with sun and clouds arguing throughout the day.

Average Sunshine Hours

Sunshine is reduced to about 5 hours, and chances of sunny days drop to 23%.

Humidity

Humidity jumps to a well-felt 75%, making chances of rain go up to 34% - not much, you might say, but the volume of rainfall is quite heavy at 73mm, spread over about 11 days throughout November. The third and fourth weeks are wetter, as the humid winter creeps around the corner, preparing for December.

Clouds

Clouds attempt to settle over Chania during this time of the year, with 21% chances of gloomy days. The atmospheric pressure drops to 766 mmHg, which gives way to consistent winds of up to 2 m/s, especially in the second half of the month.

Wind

Chances of windy days rise to 17% on average, so we recommend packing a wind breaker and an umbrella, so as not to be taken by surprise. When rain starts to pour in November, it goes on for at least a day before the skies clear again.

Average Sea Temperature

Bathing time is over, as the sea temperature drops to an average of 20°C (67°F), chilled by cold currents and dropping air temperatures. The winds towards the end of the month also favor more waves, so while it's no longer a good time for beach fun, you can still go down and admire the splendid coastal view, with a vibrant blue Aegean Sea and foamy shores.

Hotel Christina

You'd be surprised how many hotels are already fully booked or have barely one or two rooms available. Chania is always busy, but fortunately it has many hotels to satisfy the constant torrents of tourists and backpackers. Hotel Christina offers studios for £57, complete with a kitchenette so you can cook your own meals.

There is Wi-Fi available at all of them, and they're all within easy reach of Chania's main tourist attractions, museums and bars.

Beaches in Chania for November

Krios Beach

Obviously, this is no longer swimsuit and beach fun appropriate weather, but that shouldn't stop you from hiking trips to Chania's surrounding beaches. In fact, Krios Beach is one of the most beautiful places this year, filled with wild beauty and guarded by the splendid Aegean Sea.

Loutraki Beach

Only 12 km east of the city, you'll find Loutraki Beach, a sandy strip of heaven perfect for picnics on the sunnier November days.

Bars and Restaurants

To Stachi

To Stachi is a treat for vegetarians, but not exclusively, as even non-vegetarians will love the fabulous no-meat dishes that this restaurant has to offer. The service is exceptional and friendly, and the chefs will often send over free samples of other menu specialties which you haven't ordered, all part of a most delicious and hospitable experience.

Nightlife in Chania doesn't really slow down in November. The volume just increases in central bars and clubs, since most of the beach venues do take a break until the summer season returns in March.

November is not a month of festivals, but it celebrates many saints' names. In fact, women named after the Holy Virgin Mary are celebrated throughout, and often showered with gifts and flowers.

Arkadiou

The Greeks commemorate Arkadiou this month as well, the anniversary of Cretans revolutionaries who sacrificed themselves for freedom, choosing death over capture and occupation by Ottoman imperial armies, a few centuries ago. It is a time that celebrates the spirit of freedom and Greek identity.

Explore Ruins and Museums

While the beach season may be over, Chania still has plenty to offer, even in November. For example, you can still take the tour of surrounding ancient ruins, as well as the Old Harbour and its beautiful lighthouse, or you can visit the Cretan War Museum, an impressive collection of battle history and western Crete warfare over the centuries.

Typography Museum

You can also visit the Typography Museum, and get a glimpse of one of the world's oldest and most impressive crafts, from its tedious beginnings all the way up to modern times.

Hassan Pascha Mosque

Another beautiful place to visit is the Hassan Pascha Mosque, also called Yiali Tzami, the first mosque built after the conquest of Crete in 1649 by the Ottomans.
