September Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather like in Cayo Coco in September

September may mark the beginning of autumn in Europe yet in Cayo Coco it is still hot and humid, much like it has been since June. The average temperature will still be 28°C with highs still reaching 32°C and the night time averages not going below 23°C. It makes no difference at what time of this month you decide to visit Cayo Coco as the averages will remain quite consistent throughout.

September may fall right in the middle of wet season in Cuba, yet thunderous storms are usually intense but short-lived. The risk of hurricanes is still quite minimal at this time, so although activities like scuba diving are not as rewarding, due to often stormy seas, there will still plenty of water-based activities you can enjoy. Nevertheless, you'd be wise to purchase hurricane insurance for additional peace of mind.

In theory, it should be getting slightly cooler as the month progresses, yet this is often not the case. The amount of daily sunshine will still be 9 hours and the only slight change will be in average sea temps, which will rise to 30°C, instead of the 29°C which has been a constant in the previous three months. Your main concern in September will be the UV index, which is at its yearly maximum. No matter how overcast it may seem, do keep that in mind and use plenty of sunscreen.

An average rainfall of 157 mm over 13 days is the expected norm for September. Be sure to pack light, breathable clothes for your trip and make sure your hotel has air conditioning as the humidity levels at this time are at their peak.

Cayo Coco Hotels in September

The Hotel Playa Coco resort offers a private holiday experience, and boasts pristine white sand beaches, three pools, and over 300 pristine rooms with all the mod-con you'd ever need. This great all-inclusive option offers daily activities, mini-golf and evening entertainment programs, as well as a beauty spa and professional child care services. Extras curricular activities like horseback riding and scuba diving can all be arranged through the resort, at an additional cost.

The IBEROSTAR group boasts two brilliant resorts on Cayo Coco, each offering a varied selection of accommodation choices, as well as included extras and both motorised and non-motorised sports. Of the two, we'd say the IBEROSTAR Mojito is the more opulent choice, although the price margin between this and the IBEROSTAR Cayo Coco is rather minimal, each offering a plethora of accommodation and activities for holiday makers of all ages.

Cayo Coco Beach for September

No matter which resort you choose to stay in, you'll have equally fantastic beaches to enjoy and activities to indulge in. Each resorts boasts its own private stretch of pristine shores, although public sections can be found on all the beaches as well. If you want to indulge in non-motorised sports like windsurfing, kayaking and snorkelling, you can take advantage of your own resorts' services as they are usually included in the price of your accommodation.

If you prefer to head out to the open waters for phenomenal scuba diving or snorkelling trips, you can organise this directly from the Cayo Coco Marina. The beaches off the northern coast of Cuba are splendid beyond words, so splurging on a fantastic glass-bottom boat tour is extremely rewarding, although remember to do this when seas are at their calmest in September, to ensure best visibility.

Bars and Restaurants

The Hotel Playa Coco has an extensive list of restaurants available for use: a buffet, Italian, Japanese, seafood, grill, snack bar, fast food and an ice cream parlour.  There are six bars available to guests two of which are open 24 hours a day. Likewise at the IBEROSTAR resorts you'll have a plethora of exceptionally eateries, each offering a different cuisine and atmosphere.

Nearby the hotel strip in Cayo Coco you will also discover two exceptional little culinary gems run by locals and not affiliated with any of the resorts. Right along the eastern side of the Melia Cayo Coco Resort is where you'll find Ranchon Las Coloradas, a revered lobster haven which is as revered as some of the most luxurious resorts. On Playa Prohibida instead, is where you'll find Lenny's, an equally fab seafood joint where the shrimps, beers and local tunes flow in abundance all day long.

If you think you may have a hard time dealing with pizza withdrawal symptoms, then this may be the defining factor for choosing the Melia Cayo Coco resort as you chosen home away from home. The Pool Bar of this stunning hotel serves arguably the best pizzas on Cayo Coco and, if that's not enticing enough, it is also open 24/7.

Things to do in Cayo Coco in September

For a change of pace from the beaches and sand, take a trip to Ciego de Avila, about an hour and a half's drive from the resort strip on Cayo Coco. In Ciego de Avila, a very old and historic town, you can tour the city's main attraction, enjoy an authentic lunch at a locally run ranchon and even visit a nearby cigar factory for a fantastic sightseeing tour of a different kind. You could organise this trip as a guided tour from the resort or, for a more relaxing option, simply arrange for a taxi to take you to Avila in the morning and bring you back in the afternoon. This should not cost more than 150CUC.

For an incredible full-day adventure then you should consider heading out to Trinidad, a charming colonial town about 230km from Cayo Coco. Yes, this certainly makes for a FULL day trip, yet when you consider that you'll spend much of your vacation time relaxing by the sparkling beaches of your resort, taking an active day off can be a wonderful alternative. Trinidad is UNESCO heritage listed and home to the country's most prominent church, the Iglesia de la Santissima Trinidad, as well as one of its largest markets held in the town's old city centre.
