Beaches for July for Cancun
For a beach with a superb party atmosphere, it's tough to beat Playa Linda, the beach in the north of Cancun where the Caribbean Sea meets the freshwater Nichupte Lagoon. Because it's such a popular departure point for charter boats and ferry operations, the waters are often dirty and full of boats here, so it's best not to go in the sea. However, there are several water sport kiosks where you can hire kayaks and jet skis so you can enjoy the water without having to go in it.
After you've had enough of sunbathing on the soft golden sands, take a stroll along the beach to El Embarcadero, where you can sign up for fishing trips, dolphin-watching cruises and excursions to Isla Mujeres, or simply sit back and watch the local fishermen return with their catches. Playa Linda is most famous for being home to La Torre Cancun - a rotating scenic tower in which you can ride to experience panoramic views of the city.
For something a bit quieter, spend the day at Playa Ballenas, the beach in between Cancun Palace and Le Meridian Cancun Resort. Since this beach is located on the eastern coast of Cancun, it experiences more waves than the beaches in the north of the resort, making it perfect for water sports, including jet skiing and parasailing. Here you'll find a wide stretch of powder-like white sand which sharply shelves off to the shallow water.
There are loads of all-inclusive hotels located along this beach and if you're lucky enough to be staying at one of them, you'll benefit from sun lounger and parasol hire, beach service and water sport rental all for free. If you're not staying at any of the hotels, you'll need to relax on the sand and find a standalone beach bar. The name "Playa Ballenas" literally translates as "Whale Beach" and it certainly lives up to its name. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of a whale in the distance from the shore, but if you want to definitely see whales close up, you're better off signing up for an excursion.
Restaurants and Bars for Cancun in July
When it comes to modern European dining, it's tough to beat Du Mexique in Esquina Calle Pargo. Popular amongst families and couples alike, this restaurant has very limited seating, which makes reserving a table in advance a must. The chef is also the co-owner of the restaurant and highly recommends the foie gras soufflé, duck confit and chicken in red wine.
Seafood lovers won't want to pass up the chance to dine at Pescaditos. Boasting the very best fish tacos in Cancun, this small restaurant serves a number of Mexican fish-based delicacies, such as fried white fish, shrimp salad, ceviche and fish tacos. Their homemade salsa comes highly recommended and works wonderfully with everything on the menu.
Coco Bongo Cancun
If you're looking for a high-octane club in Cancun, stop by Coco Bongo Cancun. Known as the mecca of the resort's nightlife, this club is popular with the younger crowd and features a team of talented acts who perform incredible shows on stage every 30 minutes. In between the performances, DJs play the best of the classic and latest dance tunes to keep the atmosphere going.
The Cabana Beach is one of the best beachside clubs in the resort and is open throughout the day until the early hours. Also popular with younger holiday makers, this club hosts bikini and pool parties throughout the week which are always a hit. If you want the VIP treatment, you can reserve a table and order bottle service, otherwise you can order your drinks from the bar and enjoy the atmosphere on the dance floor.
Things to Do in Cancun in July
If the weather takes a turn for the worst, seek shelter at Plaza Isla, set next to the Nichupte Lagoon and protected by a giant canopy. This large shopping mall is found within the Cancun Hotel Zone and boasts more than 150 local and international shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes, as well as a 4D cinema, interactive aquarium and museum.
Some of the most well-known names include Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Guess, Diesel, Bulgari, United Colours of Benetton, Omega, TOUS and Swarovski. Some of the most popular restaurants include Hooters, Starbucks and Planet Hollywood. Not only is it a great place to shop, but its Venetian-inspired layout with Mediterranean-styled buildings and winding waterways makes it the perfect place to enjoy a walk, too.
El Rey Ruins
History buffs won't want to miss the chance to visit El Rey Ruins in the south of Cancun's Hotel Zone, adjacent to the Hilton Resort Golf Course. Known as the place where the past meets the present, this archeology site is comprised of 47 structures which are estimated to have been inhabited by the Mayans in 900AD.
There are also two important temples and platforms which are thought to be the remains of old market areas and ceremonial buildings. This site is small compared to Chichen Itza, making it great for families with children who get bored easily. In addition to the historic attractions, El Rey Ruins is also the home of plenty of fully-grown iguanas which are very friendly if you've brought them some food.
