December Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather like in Calella in December

A festive break in Calella is a great idea when you look at the kind of weather you will experience during the final month of the year. If you are looking for a destination that is bright, sunny, mild, and still has plenty to see and do, then this is the place for you!

Temperature

Despite the fact that December means it is now officially winter, you will struggle to truly see cold winter conditions; the resort experience an average temperature of around 8°C, which can reach a wonderfully mild 13°C as an average high

Average Sunshine Hours

The sun shines for around 7 hours per day, which is fantastic compared to the chilly and dark depths of winter experienced in much of Northern and Western Europe at this time of year. Many people head to this part of Spain during the Christmas and New Year period, to avoid these dark days and to enjoy the festivities in the sunshine, and in much brighter conditions.

Rainfall

The even better news is that rainfall at this time of year is extremely low for a winter month, with only 47mm of rain experienced across the month on average, which can affect around 10 days to some degree; any rain experienced is unlikely to be prolonged or heavy, and this part of the country is also unlikely to experience much in the way of strong winter storms.

Average Sea Temperature

Despite that, swimming in the sea will be a little chilly, with an average water temperature of around 16°C throughout the month perhaps just a paddle in the sea is enough!

Many hotels and restaurants remain open at this time of year in the resort, and you may find that many also open up especially for the festive and New Year period, with many ex-pats in the region searching for a place to celebrate the party season.

Calella Hotels in December

Apartamentos Can Saula

A December stay in Calella usually means a homely base is required, for a truly festive feel to your holiday. Apartamentos Can Saula give you just that, whilst also being situated just one street away from the beach. The outdoor pool is ideal for a dip if you're feeling brave, and the terrace has a wonderful sea view.

El Pekinaire B&B

Alternatively, El Pekinaire B&B gives you an upmarket choice for your break, with double or twin rooms. This is a very popular choice, which often sells out quite fast.

Apartamento Anselm Clave

Apartamento Anselm Clave is our final choice. This is a beach apartment with stunning views, ideal to wake up to on Christmas morning.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Molina Campos

The final month of the year may be quieter in Calella, but many restaurants remain open, or open up especially, for the festive season. Molina Campos is a popular choice for tapas, giving you the option to try a whole range of different foods in one sitting.

Ca L'Isard

Alternatively, Ca L'Isard is a very reasonably priced restaurant, with a wide range of meat dishes on offer for the carnivores out there!

Mister Sandwich

Mister Sandwich rounds up our choices, offering some of the amazing sandwich and salad choices you will find anywhere in the region.

Things to do in Calella in December

The festive season in this region of the country is a wonderful time to visit. Calella is alive with lights, fun, and festivities, and nearby Barcelona is hosting several Christmas markets. The most well known has to be the Fira de Santa Llucia Christmas Market, and this is the one you simply must visit. Set in front of the cathedral, during the evening the lights from the market stalls light up the night and it is a truly magical sight to behold. The market is typically Spanish, so you can try authentic foods and drinks whilst you wander around and buy presents for loved ones back home.

Barcelona

Because Barcelona is only around an hour from Calella, this means you can have the best of both worlds, and because the resort is a little quieter at this time of year, you can choose to stay by the sea, enjoying the laid-back vibe, within easy reach of this cosmopolitan city the country in general is so famous for. Hiring a car is one option, however public transport is more than adequate for your needs.

Ramblas Flamenco Show

Whilst you are in Barcelona, be sure to check out the Ramblas Flamenco Show. This is a historic dance which has roots dating back countless years, however this particular show is famous and particularly authentic, without being influenced by tourism.

Hop on Hop off Tourist Bus

If you are short of time, perhaps visiting the city just for a day from the resort you are basing yourself in, then the hop on and off tourist bus is the best way to see all the major sights, whilst also saving your legs and money!

Picnics and BBQs

As a final suggestion during the last month of the year, a relaxing, picturesque, and very laid-back way to end the year is with a picnic or BBQ on the beach. Whether you choose to enjoy this activity during the daytime or at night, take your own food, a few drinks, a blanket, and truly enjoy the wonderful coastline this region is famous for.
