September Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

If you are lucky, September can provide an Indian summer, with the highest temperatures averaging around 20°C in the day. Enjoy romantic strolls along Brittany's Emerald Coast or through the region's forests. The lowest points can fall to 12°C, but this still gives you an average temperature of 16°C during the day. Given that we are now approaching the autumn, this is still a very good temperature and will provide you with plenty of opportunities to work on your tan. Remember to bring your suntan lotion to make sure that you do not burn.

Swimming in the sea - currently at an average temperature of 18°C - will be a refreshing way to cool off when the day gets hot. Children will certainly not mind going for a little dip or a trip out to sea for fishing, wildlife spotting, or island excursions. While it may not be as warm as it was in August, there is still a lot of heat lingering in those muggy days while the seasons change. Plan at least one day for exploring the white sands of the beaches in this region to make the most of it.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast, but not too strenuously. The rainfall is only going to amount to 24mm overall this month, which is the least rain you will find all year. France does not really have a dry season, but with only 10 days expected to see rain, this is the closest that you will get. You will also have long days with which to enjoy the sun around 9 hours of light are available every single day. That gives you the chance to rise with the sun, see a lot of monuments, enjoy a trip to the beach, and enjoy your evening meal before the sun goes down.

For some luxury, stay at the Balthazar Hotel and Spa MGallery Rennes. This modern 5-star hotel is right in the city centre, allowing you access to local attractions. It includes a spa, restaurant, and bar, so you never have to leave the hotel if you don't want to. Perfect for lazing around in the September sun!

The Hotel du Louvre Saint-Malo is also in a central location, and has recently been redecorated to a fully modern style. The amenities include a full buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi, and you can book a package deal with the nearby spa to include a visit in your room price.

The Hotel Le Brittany in Roscoff takes it up to another level, with a spa on-site and a restaurant in a historic building. It has a four-star rating thanks to the high level of consideration that is paid to all visitors, making your stay as comfortable as possible.

Morgat is one of the finest resort beaches out there. It can be very busy, so watch out. Diving, windsurfing, and taking boat rides to nearby rock formations and caves offer a lot of fun. There are bars, restaurants, and even clubs nearby, so you can stay and enjoy yourself all day long.

If you are visiting Ploumanac'h, remember to spend some time on the beach there too. The sea bed is rocky, so this is more a place for sunbathing and shrimping than actually going for a long swim.

Over in Perros-Guirec, be sure to check out L'Atelier, which is an upmarket French restaurant serving food in a modern style. It is only a short walk from the beach, so check a map before you head down and you will find it very easily indeed. With classic décor, it has plenty to offer to all visitors.

You could also try Restaurant Le Ker Louis, which focuses on serving in a traditional French style. Here the plates are dressed very nicely, often with a vinaigrette or other dressing used to mark up the plate and create an impressive look. The food is also very hearty, including options like the traditional Sunday roast.

How about some Italian food? You will find it at Tratoria Capizzone, where pizza and pasta are both to be found in plenty. The prices are very good and the staff are friendly, serving up food in the classic Italian style with a little French twist here and there. Of course, being so close to the sea, there is plenty of seafood to be found on the menu too.

September rainfall is the lowest of the entire year, which makes it a great time to visit the magical Huelgoat Forest. This forest is between Morlaix and Carhaix and covers 10 square kilometres. Caves, moss-covered boulders, the mushroom rock formation, and several trails provide outdoor entertainment for the entire family.

You could also visit the Grand Site Naturel de Ploumanac'h in Perros-Guirec. It is known for beautiful rock formations made from pink stone, which look especially beautiful during the sunset and sunrise. The dramatic crashing of the sea and some man-made formations combine to make this a place of real beauty. It's a definite photo opportunity, and you may want to admire it for several hours.
