What's The Weather Like In Borneo In July

Borneo is an island that is so large that it consists of (parts of) three Southeast Asian countries, which are Indonesia, Malaysia and tiny Brunei. It is, in fact, the world's third largest island and, bisected by the equator, it enjoys a typical tropical climate. The weather in Borneo is characterised by constantly high temperatures, an ever-present chance of rainfall and an abundance of sunshine. It is a magnificent holiday destination all-year round.

Sunshine Hours

July is one of the sunniest months of the year in Borneo. You are able to enjoy no fewer than 10 hours of sunshine on average each and every day, which is exceptional considering that, because of the island's location at the equator, there are "only" about 12 hours of daylight. May and June are similarly sunny; all other months have fewer daily sunshine hours.

Rain

This abundance of sunshine is due to the fact that this is the dry seasonainfall is at its lowest this time of year and there is less cloud cover. July is the third driest month of the year, having a total amount of precipitation of 184mm.

Borneo is, however, a tropical place, so the chance of rainfall remains permanently high, even now in the middle of the dry season. You are advised to keep an eye on the weather forecast when visiting Borneo.

Temperature

With an average day temperature of 30°C, July is the hottest month of the year in Borneo. The average low temperature is 25°C, while the average high temperature is a scorching 35°C. Peaks above 40°C are no exception in mid-afternoon this time of year. Luckily, visitors can find refuge on the beaches, in the shade of palm trees and in the beautiful seas that surround this giant tropical island.

Things To Do In Borneo In July

Pontianak

Visit Pontianak, the West Kalimantan capital and known as the Equator City because of its location right on the equator. Geographically, Pontianak is bisected by two rivershe Landak River and the Kapuas River, which is the longest river in Indonesia. During your visit in July, you can enjoy a relaxing river cruise as well as many other attractions, such as Pontianak Zoo, renowned for its orangutans. The 18th-century Abdurrakhman Mosque, with its impressive interior and wooden roof, is a sight to behold, and is easily reachable by a canoe taxi that takes you across the river. Art lovers should definitely visit the Negeri Museum located south of the city. Marvel at the tribal relics, tribal clothing and the "tempayans", which are traditional water jugs found in Indonesia.

Merabu

For a completely different experience, (try to) make your way to Merabu, one of the remotest and least-explored regions in Kalimantan. Home to the Dayak Lebo, this region consists of rugged karst formations, dense jungles and small rivers. Because of its remoteness, this is a phenomenal destination for wildlife watching. There is some accommodation in the local village, as well as the chance to book expeditions. If you like nature and the great outdoors, this is one of the best places to go in Borneo.
