August Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the weather like in Berlin in August

Thanks to the warm temperatures and moderate rainfall, the end of summer and the month of August are a great time to visit Berlin. When in the capital city of Germany, you'll find plenty to do no matter your age or interests. The city appeals to singles, couples and families with various attractions, museums, sport venues and parks.

Daylight hours

The days get slightly shorter this month, with nine hours of daylight, compared to July's 10 hours of daylight.

Temperature

The average daily temperature sits around 18°C (about 64°F), a great temperature for being outside and seeing the sights. During the hottest parts of the day, the highs get up to 23°C (around 73°F), with just a little bit of humidity. Fortunately, neither the humidity or the heat are high enough to make your time outside uncomfortable. Your suitcase should still have warm-weather clothing like short-sleeve shirts, shorts and sandals.

You'll also want to bring along a light sweater or jacket, as the evening, nighttime and early morning lows can reach down to 13°C (about 55°F). The low temperatures may feel chilly or they may be a welcome change from the heat of the day. Either way, a tall mug of German beer or wine can warm you right up.

Rainfall

It's a good idea to pack the umbrella or have a waterpoof handy, with a 40 percent chance of rain each day. Nearly 62 mm of rain falls across the month, making this one of the rainiest months in the year behind June. You'll want to be sure to check the local forecast each day before you head out to know for sure what to expect in terms of precipitation. If the day is a wash-out weather-wise, head inside to a local museum or grab a bite to eat of delicious German fare.
