November events in Benalmadena

All Saints' Day

1st November 2018

Dia dos Todos los Santos is generally observed in the Catholic world as the observance for all the deceased. In Benalmadena, as in all of Spain on November 1st, it is a public holiday when families go to the cemeteries and visit their departed, bringing flowers, candles, and food. Many graves have already been elaborately decorated with florals, particularly chrysanthemum, the day before. Expect crowds, traffic jams, and stalls selling flowers in and about the memorial parks to make this trip exceedingly hard. If you are a holidaymaker in town, it is wise to avoid the streets for now, though added public transport services are organised. If you don't mind the jostling, you will see favourite dishes traditionally eaten this day - roasted chestnuts, almond cakes, cinnamon-sprinkled doughnuts, and the bone-like Huesos de Santo, an egg-yolk delicacy. The long-running, ever popular Don Juan Tenorio, a 1844 religious play on love, betrayal, and death, is showing in all theatres at this time.
