    Things to do in Bangkok in February

    Bangkok has many things to offer tourists visiting the area. Many prefer to visit at this time of year as it's slightly cooler than summer and there is less rainfall.

    Khao Yai National Park

    One place well worth a visit is Khao Yai National Park. Why not take a guided tour to make it a day to remember. Situated northeast of the city, the national park boasts five vegetation zones and a beautiful monsoon forest. With over 150 species of animals and 200 wild elephants, it's the most visited park in Thailand.

    During your trip you'll be able to taste exotic fruits, travel through rice fields, and be on the lookout for tigers and leopards. Your journey to the park will allow you to visit a fruit market, before stopping off at a local farm where you'll learn how to cook traditional Thai food, before sampling dinner. Follow your guide as you travel across a bridge to the Haew Narok Waterfall. Make sure you capture lots of photographs as this truly is a once in a lifetime experience!

    Dates to note

    February is a very busy month for the city. For the duration of the month, there is the King Rama II Memorial Fair, which honours Thai Pot Rama II and features competitions and exhibitions. In the middle of the month, there is the Bangkok Film Festival, which is the country's largest event of this kind, and hordes of international filmmakers arrive in the city to exhibit their films. Mid-February also sees Makabucha Day, a national holiday where a number of religious activities take place, and Lord Buddha is celebrated with incense sticks and candlelit processions.

    Nearer the end of the month is the Nakhon Pathom Food and Fruit Fair, where visitors can enjoy various local Thai produce and cuisine from the numerous stalls. Finally, the Phra Nakhton Khiri Fair takes place in late February and lasts for nine days. It is held in the town of Phra Nakhon Khiri, very close to the city of Bangkok.

    This day is one of the most important Buddhist celebrations, honouring the day on which Buddha recited the "Ovadha Patimokkha", the Fundamental Teaching, to his disciples. If you are interested to find out more about this event head to Loha Prasat, Pathum Wanaram and Phra Pathom Chedi to see what's going on. Thais circle temples at dusk to mark when the star Makha illuminated 1,250 disciples who gathered spontaneously to hear Buddha’s last major sermon. Alcohol banned all day.
