Each villa has plenty of space, privacy and their own bathroom, but also includes a shared living and dining area, kitchen, infinity pool, and spa area. All rooms also come with air-conditioning and a full breakfast. They are located about a seven minute drive away from Ubud.
Beaches for January for Bali
Blue Point Beach
Located in the village of Pecatu, Blue Point Beach is not one of Bali's most well-known beaches, but is still well worth the trip. This beach has a little bit of everything, as it is made up of white sand that is perfect for relaxing on, but also has large rocks and cave areas for exploring.
This is a popular beach for swimming and surfing, as well as other water sports like paragliding. Blue Heaven Bali is a restaurant close by offering a wide range of food and drinks. Blue Point Beach is located on the southern tip of Bali and is about an hour drive from Ubud.
Kuta Beach is one of Bali's most famous beaches, as it is home to what is considered the best beachfront in all of Bali. The beach is about 5km long and consists of white sand. It is a relatively clean beach and well-maintained, due to the large number of visitors it receives.
There is barely any coral or rocky areas in the water, making it a great place for both swimmers, and those interested in learning how to surf. There are lots of surf schools nearby that offer surfing lessons and have rental equipment as well. In addition to the great beach area and perfect swim water, the sunsets at Kuta Beach are also amazing, further adding to the draw of this beach.
There are numerous, small stalls just off of the beach offering cheap and delicious local food, but for a more formal dining experience, Kedin's Café offers local Indonesian dishes and serves cold drinks. Kuta Beach is about a 40 minute drive from Ubud.
Restaurants and Bars for Bali in January
For a take on local cuisine using contemporary techniques, check out Restaurant Locavore. Their menu varies by the day, depending on what fresh ingredients they were able to obtain that day. They typically offer two different "tasting" menus for guests to choose from, one which includes seafood and meat dishes, while the other is strictly vegetarian. They also offer a variety of cocktails and wines. They are located just outside of Ubud, about a 20 minute walk or five minute drive.
If you are in search of "gourmet comfort food," head to Scratch. The Canadian chef cooks a variety of dishes, from steaks, tapas, pastas, and American and Asian staples alike, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The inside of the restaurant is air-conditioned, and they also have an outdoor patio for fresh air. Scratch offers an extensive cocktail list, as well as serving a variety of beers. They are closed on Sundays but are open for lunch and dinner (12 PM 10 PM) Monday through Saturday. Scratch is located about a 40 minute drive from Ubud.
Craving a burger? Then head to Wacko Burger for a delicious take on this classic meal. They offer over 10 different types of burgers, from traditionally made ones, to ones with guacamole, sour cream, nachos, and jalapenos served on them. They also offer fish and chips, hot dogs, fried rice, and spaghetti for the non-burger crowd.
In addition to the main course, Wack Burger also serves desserts like Belgium waffles and a selection of ice creams. They also make milkshakes, and have a variety of other beverages like soft drinks, juices, and beer as well. They have two locations, one in Seminyak and one in Jimbaran. Both are open from 12 PM to 9:30 PM, and Seminyak is openly daily, while Jimbaran is closed on Sundays. The Seminyak location is about a 40 minute drive from Ubud, while the Jimbaran location is about a 50 minute drive.
Things to Do in Bali in January
Baruna Dive Center
Take advantage of Bali's warm sea temperatures this month and go scuba diving.
Baruna Diveoffers several different types of dives, including the options to check out reefs with lots of marine life (fish, sharks, sea critters), or the easily accessible USS Liberty shipwreck.
Prices vary depending on the type of dive, but they do offer special discounts for things like unlimited diving. They are located in the "center of Tulamben Village," which is on the eastern coast of the island.
Often considered the best waterfall in Bali, Sekumpul Waterfall is a place to not to miss. There are several falls here, which are surrounded by lush, green plants on all sides. It requires a short hike through the jungle to reach the falls (about 1km), so dress appropriately. In order to avoid large groups of tourists, getting there in the early morning is recommended.
Bringing a swimming costume is also suggested, as jumping in the water at the bottom of the falls is an option. There are local guides for hire at the beginning of the hike, who will ensure you get to the right place. Seukumpul Waterfall is located on the northern part of Bali, about a 90 minute drive from Ubud.
In order to discover some of Bali's history, check out Gunung Kawi. It is a temple that was built in the 11th century and is made up of 10 shrines cut out of stone. In order to protect the shrines, the cliff behind them was carved out, serving as a natural barrier, as they are almost encased.
It is believed that some of the shrines are "funeral monuments" created in dedication to King Anak Wungsu and his queens. The temple is located roughly in the middle of Bali and is a 25 minute drive from Ubud.
