August Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

What's the Weather like in Atlas Mountains in August

Temperature

Though not the hottest month of the year, August brings little relief from the searing summer sun in the Atlas Mountains. Average temperatures remain at a very high 29°C throughout the entire month of August, with the Chergui desert wind at its greatest force. This wind can increase the temperature by anything up to 10°C when it blows and brings with it a dry and dusty climate that many may feel is quite uncomfortable.

Thankfully, the mountain range provides significant protection from the hot summer sun, and therefore temperatures are nowhere near the peaks experienced in nearby Marrakesh at this time of the year. But, for many, high summer in the Atlas Mountains is more a time to lie back and savour the area, rather than braving one of the challenging trekking paths this range has to offer.

Rain

Rain is very sparse in the Atlas Mountains during August. No more than two days in the month are likely to see any precipitation, with only 3mm of water expected to fall during the entire 30 days.

Sunshine

Instead, an average of 10 hours of daily sunshine offer bright, hot, clear days for most of the region.

Humidity

Thanks to the dryness of the climate, humidity is at its lowest level in the Atlas Mountains in August, and is usually less than 60% for the entire month. This is in stark contrast to the most humid month of the year in January, when humidity levels can reach up to 80% and sometimes even higher.

Minimum average temperatures do tend to remain at a very balmy 21°C during this second hottest month of the year. However when you take into consideration altitude and the availability of shade, the climate can feel a lot cooler.

For those trekking in the Atlas Mountains in August, it is essential to be prepared for any type of weather. As the altitude increases, so do the variances in climate, making daily reviews of the weather forecast vital.
